Sympathy to the family during a time of grief. May you find strength and peace. Romans 15:33
As part of a select community committee, I was honored to advise Superintendent Ackerman during her tenure in San Francisco. She had a great passion for education. She was committed to children and was very professional. She knew how to put you at ease.
Education in America has lost a champion... May God Comfort you as her Life and Work is celebrated...

Acts24:15. Brings comfort knowing that we will see our loved ones again
As a teacher and as a parent of a child who attended D.C. Public Schools I had the greatest respect for
Ms. Ackerman. She epitomized professionalism and was unyielding in her quest for excellence. As a parent and a teacher I believe it was our city's greatest loss to the educational system when she left. y most profound sympathies to her family.
To the family of Arlene Ackerman, My condolences to you all. Jeremiah 29:1
My deepest sympathy. Please know that the God of all comfort is with your family and will help you to endure the loss of your loved one. {Romans 15:5}
May You and Your Family Find Comfort During This Time of Sorrow. Psalm 68:20
May the god of comfort be a source of strength for your famiy at this dificult time. 2Corn 1:3, 4. Deepest Sympathy, Sue, Concord, NC
When we first met I said "Barbara Sizemore was my first mentor" and Dr. Ackerman stopped cold , locked eyes with me, started to tear-up and gave me a huge hug. Dr. Ackerman was the original "gladiator", cut from the Sizemore mindset set of the child first and foremost. Philadelphia, like DC and everyother venue is unique, but Dr. Ackerman stood her ground, loudly and clearly eschewing the "politics" and put the children first. I'll miss our WWBD, "What Would Barbara Do?" sessions...
Dr. Gregory
Our deepest sympathy to the Ackerman and Randle families. May fond memories and the hand of the Lord strengthen and comfort you st this time.
I am at a loss for words. We grew up together in Overland, MO. Our families were so close. My heart breaks.
Dr. Ackerman was nothing but the truth, she walked the walk and talked the talk. She left a mark within DCPS that still has many recalling it as it was the Dr. Ackerman way of accomplishments. That will live forever in the halls of education. The power team of Ackerman and Brooks in regards to DCPS education was an awesome protocol of education.
What a pleasure and honor to have worked with such a bold and committed servant leader.
Arlene was a superb educator and leader. She was my mentor when I was the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Arlene had the courage to confront the bureaucracy, the powerful and special interests. The latter two are consumed with self interest and not the well-being of children. Being an urban city superintendent is the most thankless job in America. Arlene knew that. She would always say, if I can just last three years, then perhaps I can change enough of the system to benefit the children. That was her focus. Philadelphia was a mess and the then Gov and Mayor called her out of retirement at Columbia University to take over the District. When you take into account the increase in student achievement & the stabilization of the District, she was highly successful. However, it was politics that forced her out. Arlene, you were a warrior for our children. I'm sure God knows that and will bless you. Rest in peace, sister.
May the Lord comfort you at this difficult time. She will be missed.
My condolences for your loss. "Anyone who goes to bat for our deprived and misguided children,is and always will be,a Hero of mine"! May God be pleased with her work. Continued blessing's to the Family! Peace.
My condolences for your loss. I pray that "the God of all peace" (Romans15:33) comforts your family during this difficult time.

Dr. Claire Lockman Boyce-Atlanta
I once asked Arlene, "How do you do this everyday?" She said...you have to be dedicated to the children and believe in your cause. She then said you also need to have tough skin..lol. She was an incredible boss...We still talk about her in DCPS
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
To the family of Arlene, her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of so many.
