Paul was a long time friend of mine. I sold him many things over the years that I dug. We dug together a few times which was lots of fun. His Daddy was also a very nice man. I have thought of him often and miss Paul. Pat Oliver

A gentleman, a scholar, and a quirky southern character. Always good for a story and a laugh. The world is a poorer place without you in it. RIP

Think of you often old friend. Am reminded of how a certain magic about Savannah left for me with your passing. Am glad to remember the nostalgia of it and miss your energy and shouting "Closing Time" before you shut your shop for the day. Thanks Paul.

I learned today of the loss of Paul; a shock. My first memory of Paul is when his father drove on a school field trip, perhaps the end of the year school party at either Hilton Head or Jekyll Island. Paul was just a tow headed little boy, full of energy. My husband was very interested in Southern antiques and artifacts, so we saw him throughout the years, but the best memory I hold I that field trip so long ago.

My condolences, Jacky,

How glorious and wonderful is Pauls' reward for such a wonderful and earned lifetime of accomplishments. We will never be able to fully appreciate all that was and IS H.Paul Blatner. There is no doubt however that his passing to reward is and always will be our tragic loss. GOD bless you Jacky.

I met Paul when I was 18 and we shared a friendship & camaraderie for over 20 years. He was a like brother, mentor, teacher and we spent hours in his shop swapping stories and in my adult life, considered him one of my most important influences in my life. I just spoke to him last week so this comes as a shock. When I went to his grave today I brought two things "of me" and "of us." A Savannah ginger beer bottle that I found in Bonaventure, and my miniature Weeping Lion statue from Oakland Cemetery's plot for The Unknown Confederate Dead. I hardly need explain these items for those that truly knew him. The South mourns and the thunder and rain in Savannah today followed by a mesmerizing sunset, was all for Paul and those that loved him.

Jacky & Family: So sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I knew him for more than 30 years. I, too, am an amateur historian and a collector of antique bottles and pottery (since 1969). He was of great help to me in providing info about Georgia mini jugs, which he had in abundance in his shop. He also helped when I was researching the start of bottle collecting in Georgia. I will miss him.

My condolences to the family. May God's word bring you comfort during this difficult time (Psalm 91:15).

Paul was a true Southern gentleman---he loved history and anything to do with Savannah and the War Between the States---he will be missed----I could always go to Paul when researching local history, art, antiques etc. and if he did not know the answer---he would help research it.

When I saw the notice my first thought was "Oh, how I hope that this is not Paul." I waited until these memories and condolences began to flood in. I cannot believe that he is gone. He was so savvy, so smart, so knowledgeable about antiques and collectibles. The best tribute I can give to him is that he has now left a void in the Savannah antiques community that will be hard to fill. Rest in peace, Paul. You are gone too, too soon.

Very sad to hear of Paul's passing. Paul was very important to the City of Savannah historical preservation, local history, the hobby of metal detecting, and to me. I could write all day about this man's importance to all he touched. I am thankful to have known such a knowledgeable man that taught me so much. My hat is off, my head is hung low, and my heart is heavy my friend. Godspeed to the historical figures you loved so much!

Sincerely, Rocky Sommers [email protected]
