Dear Pierre, I'm honestly heart broken that you my long time neighbor, friend and confidante passed away right under my nose! Let it be known that the most handsome dashing man in the world is gone! I will miss you and so will your fans of your sandwich at Eli's Deli named for you, "The Olivier," goes down as one of the most famous deli sandwiches ever served in Savannah!

Cath-

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's passing. Just from what you shared with me these past several years, he sounded like one fascinating character! I am thinking of you and all of the family, with deepest sympathy....

Pierre and I have been buddies since 1970,
when I subleased his Manhattan apartment, advertised in our Pan Am stewardess lounge. He flew on Pan Am a lot and was known to spontaneously take to the aisle serving French wine and fine dining to astonished passengers.
I've known Pierre for 47 long years.
Meeting and befriending his family and friends
has been a colorful enrichment to my life.
We occupied Manhattan, Marin County, and Amboise
at the same time. We're talking...years!... of delicious and entertaining dinner parties, adventures, (that's for sure)
and Pierre's rascally "betises", as a high-spirited mischief maker.
My husband Steven and I were frequent guests at Chateau Belle Roche, and loved meeting his many American guests enjoying his chateau, his hospitality, and the Loire Valley.
To this day, years since he left France for Savannah, local shop keepers, garage mechanics, merchants, friends and neighbors in Amboise ask about him. There's always a vignette attached to their query, usually a recounting of a fine dinner or a kindness Pierre bestowed.
No fading into obscurity for this man.
Being Pierre's friend has certainly been an "E Ticket" ride in my life.

Cath,
I am so sorry to hear about Pierre. I will always remember his happy smile when I had the pleasure to meet him. Pierre was a friendly, talented, sharing, and happy soul who enjoyed life to the fullest.

I met Pierre a few times in downtown Savannah. He was a delightful man...very approachable. You could tell that had "tales to tell". We were supposed to have a drink or two, but it never happened, and for that I regret. Although I didn't know him long, or know him well...I could tell he was a special person just by being in his presence, if only for a short while.
Repose en paix, Pierre.

Pierre (2nd from left) was the best host at his luncheon and dinner parties at his Chateau Belle Roche in Amboise. This is how Pierre arrived to dinner at Veronica & Steven's French country farm in his Excalibur of course; around 2003
