Having seen on july 31, 2017, the filled sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, and replayed the words spoken at the Memorial Service by Dr. Viverette and Rev. Racz, and again being choked up by young Stuart Williams' rendition of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, a life well lived by Nat Rackett is readily apparent.
Nat set the standard as a man of faith, a loving husband, a committed father, a steadfast friend, a valiant sailor, and a superb lawyer who knew how to shape the law to fit what a client needed, applying common sense to legal issues, which is not often easy.
The bar and the community has lost a giant, and we shall not soon forget the difference he made in many, many lives.

Dear Vernice and Family: I am so sorry to hear of Nat's death. He and I talked recently about mutual interests and his desire to do more to make a difference. He left a profound impression on me with his genuine spirit and sense of responsibility to do good in the world. I'm certain you have heard that many times. What a loss to your family. What a loss for all of us. My heart goes out to you. Dennis and I send love and our sincere sympathy.

I am very sorry about the loss of Nat. I will always have fond memories of visiting him in Probate Court. He was always friendly and very helpful.

I am so sad about Nat's passing. We grew up together in north Richmond, and so I knew him best during our teen years. I'm so proud that he went on to become a husband, a father, and a good person. We have all lost a good friend.
