Ruben Augustine Lopez
On September 3, 2013, Ruben Augustine Lopez went to be with the Lord, to join his wife of 45 years, Inez B. Lopez, who he described as one of the greatest inspirations of his life, saying, "She taught me to know…God's love."
On May 31, 1928 he was born in San Bernardino. At age 17, he entered the U.S. Navy in service to his country during World War II. After four years in the service, he married Inez Bocanegra and started a family. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a sheet metal worker for 14 years and for San Bernardino County as a motor fleet mechanic-welder for 22 years.
He served the City of San Bernardino as Planning Commissioner for 12 years, with the undiminished hope of seeing San Bernardino strong again. He was a faithful member of Calvary Chapel San Bernardino for 27 years.
Ruben was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, friend, and community member. He is survived by his children; Ruben Lopez (Nancy), Steve Lopez (Debbie), Louise Ayala, Rita Weiss (Don); his grandchildren Nathan Lopez (Vicki), Lindsey Johnson (Chris), Daniel Lopez, Luke Lopez, Reuben Ayala, Rachel Lopez, Don Weiss, Catie Weiss; great grandchildren Deanna and Vincent Lopez.

Dearest Cousins,
I love you all very much and I am so sorry to hear about our Uncle Ruben's passing. Through the sadness and pain of losing such a wonderful father, I know in my heart that you all know that he is walking on the streets of gold, most likely having a wonderful conversation with the Lord Jesus. Holding the hand of the love of his life, his precious wife Inez. What a wonderful picture I see as I visual them all together. I love Uncle Ruben and he and Aunt Inez impacted my life more than you may all realize. The love for the Lord that they so boldly professed, gives me the encouragement to do the same. Put the Lord first and all other things in life will fall into place. The Lord is great and He loves us all very much and He is the one that will get us through our sadness and pain. God is merciful and gracious. Thank you Lord for the many years you gave us with such a wonderful man. Our Uncle Ruben's legacy will forever live on.
God bless you all during this difficult time. I love you all very much!

Dad,
God has truly blessed me with such a wonderful dad. You have been such a great example of a selfless, kind, caring individual. Always putting others needs ahead of yours. Even in the end as your children cared for you, you tried to the best of your ability to do things for yourself. My heart is broken, but I have so many great memories of you. After your heart attack in '04 we got into the habit of closing all our visits/conversations with “goodnight” instead of “goodbye”. Goodbye seemed so final. So, one last time dad …. Goodnight, until I see you again.
Love Always,
Rita

Dear Ruben,
I have really loved knowing you and being part of your family for the past 26 or so years. We had many great discussions and debates regarding Christianity, San Bernardino and politics. You taught me so many things over the years and I am so very grateful to you for that. You truly were an Awesome Father-in-Law to me and a Spectaular,Very Much loved, Father to Rita and Grand Father to Don Bruce and Catie. As Sad as I am that your life here on earth has come to an end, I am even Happier that you are now healthy and whole and walking the streets of gold with your wife Inez and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
with much love..Don Weiss
