Dear Kilgore family,
I had the privilege of having Bob as a math teacher, at Del Vallejo Junior High, in the mid-60's. I saw him at Del Rosa Elementary one day, walking around campus. I stopped him and told him he had been my teacher some 40 years before. He told me that he was looking for an upper-grade teacher that would let him come in and tutor needy kids. I jumped at the chance. That was 9 years ago. For the most part, he came in my classroom Monday through Friday, and pulled group after group of kids. The kids respected and loved him and so did I. He never wanted to stop working with the kids. On his last few visits to the school he was too frail to walk. So, he drove his car and walked in from the parking lot. He always told me that being able to tutor kept him going. I felt him tutoring kept me going. I always looked forward to seeing him with groups of kids, they were always engaged. Bob Kilgore, which I could never bring myself to call him, he was still Mr. Kilgore, was an example of what a "teacher" should be, and an example of the "finest of human beings." I am sure he will be playing some really great math games in heaven. God bless him and all of his family.
