Angela Sutter Obituary

Angela Adrienne Sutter

Angela Adrienne Sutter passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 21, 2015, after a brave battle with ALS, with her husband, Carl, by her side.

Angela was born on June 8, 1944, in West Orange, New Jersey, to Dora Mascia and Mario Bruno Sibilia. As a young girl, Angela spent summers with her cousins and sister Livia playing in the sand and warm salt water of Florida and New Jersey.

In high school, Angela attended Mount Saint Dominic Academy, where she published a thesis on radioactive isotopes, that is now in the Library of Congress. In the process of conducting experiments for the paper, she rendered a ring she was wearing slightly radioactive, much to her surprise.

In college, Angela was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Pennsylvania, where at the urging of her girlfriends, she entered the 1962 Miss University of Pennsylvania Pageant. In the pageant, Angela was runner-up (by two votes) to a fellow co-ed named Candice Bergen. Angela graduated from Penn in three years, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Angela married Paul Robert Strack in 1965, and gave birth to Christopher Robert, in 1967, and Erica Livia, in 1972.

After the death of her husband, Angela moved west and earned her Master's Degree in Business Administration from UCLA and University of Washington. Angela moved to Seattle and married Harvey Conant Peterson, with whom she raised a total of five children, including Gretchen Anne, Steven Ellsworth, and Christopher Carl. They were the modern "Brady Bunch," often seen skiing in a line down the slopes of Crystal Mountain or Sun Valley.

While raising the children, Angela pursued a career in business where she became a longtime Vice President of Investments for Morgan Stanley, and President of the Board at the Bellevue Arts Museum, where she was instrumental in the museum's rebirth.

In 1993, Angela moved to Bellevue and married Carl Fain Sutter. Carl was a lifelong sailor, and he and Angela embarked on a life together focused on family, sailing, and world travel. Carl and Angela were soulmates, and loved each other deeply. Carl and Angela took no less than 22 trips around the world, to destinations in Europe, India, and Africa.

Closer to home, Angela was known as the all-star Italian grandmother, "Nonna," who was always happy to entertain the grandchildren - Roman, Anders, Taylor, Brooklyn, and their legion of step-cousins - and shower them with love, food, and ice cream.

In 2012, Angela was diagnosed with ALS. The family would like to thank Angela's team of simply angelic caregivers for their love, support, and compassion.

Angela lives on in our hearts.
