I just found out about Cuck's passing away. I know its months late but I am anyway shocked. What a loss!

I met Chuck in Spain, in one of his work visits. He became well acquainted with my father, and grew a friendship with all our family. He was always such an inspiring sensitive man, full of good humour and intelligent observations. I specially cherish the memories of one of his visits staying at home and a day trip we took with him into the Castillan plateau and the archeological site of Tiermes.

Despite we didn't see each other that often, he always had a place in our thoughts and hearts. I will always thank him for hosting my brother in Seattle one summer, and treating him as if he was a true nephew. His generosity and kindness have been and will always be an example of the kind of person I want and try to be.

Stacy, Emma (you are the two my brother met) and all his other children, grandchildren, sister, brother and nephews: I send you all my support and my condolences. I hope knowing that he was also loved in Spain and will be missed here helps you cope with his loss and build an even broader picture of the extraordinary person he was. I will certainly miss him.

Praesto Pro Auxilium

I have learned too late that Chuck has passed away! I never met any of Chuck's children nor his cat, but they were very dear to me through Chuck's words. I just want to say to Stacy, Emma, Scott and the rest of his family, how sad I am.

Chuck and I became instantly friends when he came to Spain to teach a Hazwoper course for CH2MHILL. The word that best describes Chuck is a Spanish one: ·” BONHOMÍA”. It means good humanness, and many other good things; it summarizes all of the good words that one can say about a person... good friend, gentleman, honest, fair, family loving, unselfish, good humored, humble, hard working, etc. If you take all the goodness adjectives of the dictionary together they add up to “bonhomía” and Chuck had so much of it that wherever he went he enlightened things. In physics' terms one can say that he had so strong a “bonhomia” field that wherever he was, the environment around him shined. And yes, talking about the speed of light he asked my daughter the physicist: what is the speed of darkness? Yes, Chuck had ingenuity and humor, what a combination!

Chuck talked to me about his Viet Nam experience and about his vocation to be a fireman. But he never told me that he had three Purple Heart medals. This is humbleness! Chucks most prominent trait was his readiness to help, his readiness to serve... how could he not be a fireman or a Hazwoper instructor? Chuck was always true to himself, he was always “Praesto Pro Auxilium! The world could do with many more men like Chuck E. Mitchell!

Chuck has passed away, what a great loss for this world!, what a great gain for heavens!
