Jim was one of the smartest people I ever met - it was always daunting to engage him in an academic discussion. However, he was also quick with a quip, skilled with a chef's knife, and cheerful as a host. Fair winds and following seas to my friend who loved cruising.

Bob Emde, M.D. and I were thinking of Jim today during a seminar Bob has been leading for decades on "Affect, Stress and Prevention" (previously called "Affect Seminar") at the University of Colorado at Anschutz. We reflected on his contributions to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Early Childhood Transitions Network (1982-1994) as a member of the Seattle Node chaired by Dr. Kathryn Barnard. We are saddened at the news and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and all of his colleagues, students, and friends. Sincerely, Joan (former MacArthur Transition Network Coordinator).
