Beano was a very humorous sports guy who attended a few of the Thompson Run AA sports stags that I chaired. He was asked"How long do you think you will live?" His answer" The over and under is 78"We were lucky to have him make the over. Darrell Hess Venice Florida

October 14, 2012
May Beano rest in peace. My favorite Beano witticism was his choices for the top achievements in the 20th Century. Beano said they were civil rights, medicine and air-conditioning.

During this time of sorrow, may the family look to God for comfort and strength. "He will comfort all the mourning ones" Isaiah 61:2
October 12, 2012
One of the signs of a wonderful man is his loyalty to his city and his University. Beano had both, was proud of both, and until his last breath was telling the world abot both. I first met Beano in 1958 as a fellow collegue in the Sports Information business, when I was at Xavier and we remained friends forever no matter where his journeys took him and mine took me to LSU and the Houston Oilers. There was never a time when his travels brought him to Houston, that we wouldn't get together.
Oh year, Beano was a very funny man, but what so many people never learned was that Beano also had a great understanding of the game of football.
I can see him now, sitting alongside the Lord and chiding a host of passed on football coaches, with smarts and humor.
I will miss Beano. So will college football.
October 12, 2012
So sorry for your family and the loss of your loved one. Your grief will be very painful so I hope that the words at Psalms 94:19 will give you some comfort.
October 12, 2012
Beano was not only an old friend, but an old love. We met at Pitt in the late 50'sand dated for several years. I remember him asking if we should get married. My reply was that he was already married to Pitt and football. What I remember most about Beano was his irrepressible personality, and his ability to make me laugh. He was a kind person, a real gentleman and I am proud to have known him.

I am at a loss for words because what can you say about Beano? He was an original. Nobody will be the next Beano. And he will be missed. It's still hard to believe I won't be able to hear him answer the phone one more time, "Columbo.'' I just wish he had left behind a message for his guest book. It would have been funny and witty the way he always was. Don't you think he's nw talking to Blaik and Leahy about the '46 ND-Army 0-0 tie? RIP.
October 12, 2012
Going to miss him and Ivan on the Podcast... great CFA knowledge!
October 12, 2012
Listening to Beano Cook talk about college football was often more entertaining than the games themselves.

ONE OF THE BEST
October 12, 2012
The first time I saw Beano was in Pitt wrestling practice, in 1957. Here comes this big pudgy guy in a Pitt sweat suit screaming that he wanted a piece of Tom Alberts (Pitt's 177 lb. NCAA Champion).
It was over in 5 seconds, but I'll never forget that powerful impression Beano made on me.
October 11, 2012

Beano was a legend in my book. I listened to an interview he had with the fabulous sports babe when I was driving through Kansas and Beano reassured me that Randy Moss was a steal and that the Vikings were lucky he fell to them. Beano you were so right! May your soul rest in peace.

To the Friends of Beano

Beano was a friend of mine growing up in Chatham Village. Some of the times I spent with Beano will go unmentioned. These are special memories which preceded his rise to a successful career. There are several of us who will remember these times and only share them with friends from long ago. Memories which will live until we meet again.
Rest in peace Beano.

Sympathy & kindest regards to Beano's family & multitude of friends wherever they may be. Pinpointing the individual who personifies Pittsburgh more than any other is treading on very thin ice, but Beano certainly comes to mind. God bless 1 & all whose lives he touched in any way. Take care.
