Barbara and the entire Richmond Family,
The Goodwin's just learned of Chet's passing in December which puts a damper on the post-Christmas atmosphere. Our father and Chet were both of the Class of '41 at the Academy and roommates during their swab summer. Both received their wings at NAS Pensacola, Florida in '43. We were extremely honored when Chet attended our father's funeral in 2005 at Bath, Maine. His stories of the shenanigans at the Academy and their interesting flights together (scary might be a better term) made the weekend for the entire family. Words can't express the most personable and lasting impression he made on the Goodwin offspring and how indebted we are to the Coast Guard. Chet was a true member of the ‘greatest generation'.
I was very sorry to learn of Admiral Richmond's passing. My condolences to Barbara and family. He was my first aviation CO. After completing flight training, I was assigned to Air Station St. Petersburg in January 1963. He pioneered the consolidation of co-located CG units into a single Group Command. No one was more surprised than me, a junior LT (03), when he appointed me Deputy Group Commander, which assignment I muddled through under his sage guidance. In addition to being a top notch pilot, he was a confident CO who enjoyed the respect and admiration of all hands. I last saw him many years ago at a Ptero Roost at Air Station Cape May, NJ, when we were both retired. We spoke briefly and he was kind enough to remember me, or at least did a good job of pretending. CG Aviation has lost one of its towering figures.
I was so sorry to hear this news and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. My parents, Vic & Helen Schmidt, have both passed away now; but all of my life always kept up with and talked about Dad's classmates. They are real to me and I grieve with you.
Please accept my deepest sympathy .
MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE RICHMOND FAMILY; MAY THE LORD CONTINUE TO GUIDE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. YOU ARE ALWAYS IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
My deepest condolences to you all. Though it's been many years since we last met, Adm. Richmond's is a name I know well; my dad, Capt. Robert Cromwell, was his friend and fellow classmate from the CG Academy. We are blessed beyond words to have had men like these serving our country, and they were blessed to have had the lifelong friendships they formed while serving. Please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers. Regards, Twyla Cromwell Jackino
Words cannot express my true and heartfelt condolences at this time. May your special memories of Uncle Chet soothe your spirit and comfort you. Please know that you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers.
Barbara & family:
We extend our sincerest sympathy to you and your family.
I note that the Admiral's tour in CGHQ as the first flag officeer to serve as Chief of he Office of Research and Development was not mentioned. However, I was Chief of Applied and Environmental Technology for 3 years at that time and Chet was my boss. It was the most enjoyable and satisfying assignment of my career. He was a pleasure to work for.
I will mention, for old times sake, Barbara, some of the others that also served with Chet, at that time: Charlie Bates, Abe Siemens, Otto Unsinn, Cecil Maree, Bill Lehr, Ray Baetson, Joe Coburn, George Seaman, Bob Parkhurst, Lloyd Breslau, and, of course, Pauline, his secretary. I relect on the Admiral and these others often.

Tammy and family, I am deeply saddened by your loss. my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I always had a good time with "Chet"
All is well your service is now done here on earth you now stand watch on a deck up high
Ou prayers are with the family at this time. It should be mentioned in the obituary that RADM Richmond was one of the most beloved Admirals in the CG. His leadership style was admired by all who served under him. He was a true leader, and I was fortunate to serve with him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Tammy, and the rest of your family, at this most difficult time. We hope the wonderful memories of your dad will help you all through this time of sorrow.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
