Manong Fred, growing up in America was rather tough and cruel due to racism and discrimination especially in the '50's and 60's. But after meeting, learning and feeling pride in you as a Filipino-American, you gave me the inner strength and drive to be somebody--a true Christian soldier like yourself--fighting for justice and equality. Good Bye my dear friend.

I am so very saddened to only find out today while "surfing" on the internet about my beloved Uncle Fred. I wish to extend my deepest sorrow and condolences to the family of Uncle Fred, especially to Auntie Dorothy and his entire family. I am certain that Uncle Fred now sits at the right hand of God watching over all of us.
I was recently released from federal prison last april 21, 2014 after serving 3 years for helping distraught and hapless homeowners to save their homes from fraudulent foreclosures, trustee's sale and imminent evictions by unscrupulous mortgage lenders and greedy money changers. Uncle Fred taught me to fight for what you believe in, and be prepared to sometimes pay a severe price like prison time or worse.
As a former student activist and ethnic studies organizer at San Francisto State University circa 1967. Uncle Fred was my hero and inspiration of what a minority in America can accomplish and achieve. While being arrested and clubbed by the Tact Squad at San Fran. State in demonstrating against racism and to recruit more minorities to enter college, Uncle Fred kept us believing and hoping to secure our share of America, America Me Too!! Uncle Fred with his fierce pride as a Filipino-American, strong belief in God, and love of family and people in general, is still and will always be our hero. I have known Uncle Fred since I married one of his drill team members (Ethel Dayonot) back in 1069, and have always emulated his drive, integrity, and pride as a Filipino-American. Growing up in America in the 50's and 60's was quite traumatic and troubling when there were only 4 Filipinos in the whole school. but then I was fortunate enough to meet, honor and learn from Uncle Fred. He made all the difference in this world for me.
Uncle Fred will be missed greatly, but he will never be forgotten........

My deepest sympathies to the Cordova family in the loss of Mr. Fred Cordova. I attended school with Tita and Cecilia, and always remember the kindness, compassion and concern that Mr. Cordova showed to everyone who came into contact with him. He was truly a great human being and an example for generations to follow. His light and love will burn forever through the many lives he has touched.

There are so many words that can be used to describe you, if I were to pick just one it would be "HERO", for you were truly that in so many lives. From my time as a child attending school at Immaculate Conception, thru my family's tragedy of the fire, on into many phases of my life. We were truly blessed to have you as "father, uncle, mentor, guide, leader….you made such a tremendous difference for communities of color. To Dorothy and family…thank you for sharing Fred with all of community. Love you forever.

Uncle Fred,
Paalam at nagmamahal,
Laarni

I am just signing the book because it was hard for me to believe that you were really gone. I attended your rosary and then the funeral. What a beautiful vigil and send off. Uncle Fred in being a part of the Filipino Youth Activities Drill Team you taught us all to hold our head high and be proud of who we are. I also learned from being on the team to give back as Uncle Charlie and Uncle Stan gave many hours to driving all of us kids around. It instilled in me to give back and so in every opportunity that I can help, I do. In the couple years I spent with the team, it helped me into becoming the person that I am. Proud to be Filipino and generous in helping others. I am thankful to the Cordova family for sharing Uncle Fred with all of us.

He was a father to us all. He was a teacher, a confidante, an advisor. He was a living breathing example of how to be and what to be. He changed the course of my life and that of so, so, many others. He had the biggest most welcoming heart and had a way of making you feel important in his presence. Thank you for your smile, your wisdom, and your vision. Thanks for that swift kick when needed too! There aren't enough thank-yous. Your lessons and love are branded in my heart and mind forever.
Love to Dorothy and family. You are in my prayers every minute.

I will always remember the first time I met Fred. I was 19 years old and eager to get involved with the Asian American community. He was encouraging, passionate, had a wonderful sense of humor, and just "told it like it is." He always inspired me to follow my heart, as he did. I will truly miss him. It has been a great honor knowing him and a true privilege to work with him.

Siga, siga FYA and the familiar cadence of my bamboo pole. My 5th grade teacher told me speak softly and carry a big stick. I thought he was talking about my bamboo pole! Atlantic Street, Beacon Hill, the Central District. These were all places that the FYA Drillteam used to practice when I was a kid. I remember Fred yelling commands like "ready Dulcinda chachuwa..." and getting us in formation. We went all over Washington and California competing in parades. That's the legacy that Fred left for me was an increased awareness of my Filipino roots. I will always remember him in his red hat and lanyard marching along side of us down 4th Avenue in a Seafair parade. Fred had a broad reach touching many all over the world not only with the drillteam, but with FAHNS. He made a difference in my life instilling pride in my Filipino Americaness. Siga, siga Fred on your path to heaven. Thank you for all you did. My deepest sympathies, Dorothy and the family. Now is a time to celbrate the brightness of Fred's light. He is indeed an icon who will always be remembered. A former princesa,

My condolence to the Cordova family. Uncle Fred helped me and countless others find our identity as Filipino-Americans which brought about the Pride to be Filipino which was so important for young adults trying to find our way in the world. In knowing him I got to know myself. He will be remembered as Filipino pioneer who led us in ethnic spirit and solidarity. At one of their family reunions he said if you only have one eight bagoong blood in your veins you are Filipino. Although he is gone he will never be forgotten. Thank you for leading the way.

My family and I sends our prayer to the family of Uncle Fred Cordova. I am so honored to have met him once in Seattle, his hometown and seeing his legacy project of compiling news and articles about Filipinos. This resonates with me when he said that "... even if one has a .01% of Filipino blood flowing in his body, I would consider him a Filipino...". Thank you Uncle Fred for leaving a legacy through your work on keeping the history of Filipinos in America. You will be missed.

This Filipino man was my hero because he brought self worth to the many Pinoy immigrants who came to America . His ideas and passion inspired and motivated many of us to know about ourselves and how we impacted on the growth and development of the USA. His knowledge about our people
gives us a reference point in American History. He will hold a special place in our hearts in the timeline of Filipino American History.

After almost 20+ years, we met up again at the FANHS, New Mexico, Biennial Conference. I was glad I was there because I specifically wanted to reacquaint again, and hoped to establish a long, lost friendship. I was deeply saddened to learn of your passing, but you know, and I know our life on this earth is only temporary. Our life with God is forever! Take care my friend, and one day soon, our paths will cross again and we'll dance as we once did at the Filipino People's Far West Convention. Rest in Peace my brother, Rest with God beside you.

I was an impressionable college student when I met Uncle Fred for the first time at UC Santa Cruz in 1975. There were only a few of us Pinays/Pinoys enrolled at the time and his message gave us a sense of purpose and strengthened our commitment to social justice and advocacy. Seventeen years later, in Stockton, prior to the opening of Timoteo's play, "Across Oceans of Dreams" to a sold out audience of nearly 1500 people, the community
welcomed Uncle Fred back to his hometown and city leaders honored him with the keys to the city. With Uncle Fred's passing, our world is crying a river and heaven is rejoicing its newest and most wonderful new angel. Our thoughts and prayers go out to
Auntie Dorothy and the family. We will always be grateful for the sacrifices you have made to help our people and for sharing your husband, father, grand father, and great grandfather Fred with us.

Before leaving one of many events where our paths crossed, I went to say good-bye to Uncle Fred. He gave me a gift by telling me something about my Dad. He said, "Your Dad -- he taught me - patience!" I looked at Uncle and we both started laughing hysterically for a good minute or so. I'm not sure if we were each laughing at the same thing but I'm hoping Dad asks him about that when they meet again. I love that this is my last memory of Uncle Fred.

I will remember him for his commitment, passion and feistiness. We have lost a true national treasure.

I only got to meet Uncle Fred once at one of the last family reunion we had in Seattle, but it was truly a life changing experience. At first to find out how many people I actually had on that side of the family was a little overwhelming, but then to find out how respected, known, and loved Uncle Fred was by so many people far and near made me feel proud to be related to someone like that. Once I had met him he was just so kind and funny, just like his sister (My Grandmother Kathleen Who Passed in 2012 December 30th) and I immediately felt the love that everyone expressed about him. He was truly a great and amazing man that will be dearly missed
