Hi Kendall, that's so interesting that you looked at your high school yearbook to remember who I was...I was going to do the same for you, but my yearbooks are up in the attic and I didn't want to go through the rigamarole it takes to get the dropdown ladder pulled out and go up there in the cold dustbin of history....but I will go up there eventually!

I had had the idea to go to karen's memorial but I decided that I didn't know her very well and wouldn't want to present myself as a friend when in fact, I wasn't. But I wish I HAD been! And I live in the U district myself! Anyway, I am so sorry you have lost your best friend. So so sorry. My sister is my best friend and I cannot imagine life without her. ANd three years ago I did lose another best friend, my husband. Yes it hurts like hell, and no one who hasn't gone through this can really understand how it is to lose someone you deeply love. I feel for Karen's husband Tom. At some future point, when his rawness wears off a bit, I might email him to have a coffee with me or something in the hopes that he can tell me more about Karen. I'm not sure if he'd be up for that, but I think I will at least try....Tom wrote me and asked me to say hello to him if I did attend the memorial, so maybe I can say hello to him in the near future.

I spend my time with art, music, gardening, reading and traveling. Life is diminished without Liam, but I gradually am finding some moments of peace and joy and beauty which I never thought could happen again.

Take good care, and thanks so much for writing. It was so kind of you to thank me.

Wendy

We wish to express our sympathy to the family of Karen - Tom, Kathy, and Mark.
I enjoyed having Karen as my assistant for our Campfire Group., of which Kathy was a member. Karen took charge of the music and was very good with the girls!

I went to Glenbard West high school (class of 1959), grew up in Lombard and remember Karen and her sister Kendall. I have lived in Seattle for 40 years and have shopped at Ace Hardware in the Maple Leaf neighborhood and never dreamed there could be a person from Lombard who was involved with that store. Karen sounded like a fascinating individual whom I would have liked to know post-high school. It is a beautiful photo of her that appeared in the Seattle Times..the minute I saw it, I knew I recognized her from somewhere in the past. A close friend of mine, Linnea Asplind, also remembers them, when I told her of what had happened. I've lost family and I am very sorry for what her family is going through. Love will never die.
