We cannot begin to say how sad we are to hear this hard news. In kindness, intelligence and genuine concern for others, Lois enriched our lives. She and Thad contributed so much time and talent, as well as academic leadership, to the UW community. While serious and purposeful in her disparate roles and responsibilities, Lois had one of the best laughs of anyone we know -- A loving voice to all who knew her. In our various works together, Jack and I enjoyed her company and respected her dedication to fairness and opportunity. In addition to all her professional contributions she and Thad were adept at dedicating their life events to the building up and betterment of ohers. We admire their recent huge financial gift to the university and their life-long service.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Thad and her family.

Dear Thad and family,
I just read in UW 'Columns' that Lois passed away in May; I am so sorry for your loss.
Lois, and you, Thad, have been such good friends to Sam and me over the years. You were always there to support any event or cause in which Sam was involved. Remember Lois in a UW sweatshirt at Sam's 80th birthday party!?
Lois was a mentor to me during my ombuds work at Clark College; her wisdom, perspective, and sense of humor were invaluable.
I know you all have so many fond memories to cherish -- they will keep Lois alive in your hearts.
I will miss my friend.

Dear Family of Lois,
I just now saw this announcement and I want to send my heartfelt sympathy. I knew and worked with Lois in the mid 80s and early 90s when I was at UW with her. I so admired the important work she did on behalf of African American nurses and on behalf of ALL nurses and others. In her capacity as the ombudsperson, she constantly worked toward creating an equitable and just environment. She has left a big legacy and will be remembered always. Ellen Olshansky

To Lois' Family....Lois was one of my academic advisors at the Dept. of Psychosocial Nursing. I will always remember her clarity in asking questions and encouraging pursuit of knowledge. She was most definitely both a nurse genius as well as a beloved character. Please take care...
