I will always appreciate the help and welcome that Lou showed me as a rookie teacher. Over time I came to appreciate his knowledge of art and history, his wit and humor, his friendship, and sometime (just sometimes) his politics. I eventually became a junior high librarian and would always chuckle to myself when I'd run the vacuum in the library. Recalling the teasing I used to give Lou about keeping his library so clean, I'd say to myself, "You've become Lou Emerson." That would have been a good thing.

Adios ucle Luke, I always enjoyed our visits and our conversations in Spanish. Thank you for sharing your love for Mexico and the catholic faith with me !

I really enjoyed the times when you came by the house from time to time and I enjoyed house-sitting for you when I was younger. I'm going to miss you.
