Mary Brauer Obituary

Mary Rebecca Brauer

ne;e Stevens

The following is from Mary's own hand-- Mary Rebecca Brauer died October 5, 2013, with her beloved husband at her side and surrounded by the love of family and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm at the Washington Athletic Club, East Room, 1325 6th Ave, Seattle, WA.

Memorials: Please make a donation to Emergency Artists' Support League at P.O. Box 7895, Dallas, Texas, 75209 or www.cftexas.org/easl-fund in memory of Mary in lieu of other remembrances.

Mary was born in Seattle, Washington, to Leona M. and Myron J. Stevens, the third of five daughters. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English literature, followed by a long career in the communications industry that included work at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and, most recently, more than 15 years with Weber Shandwick in Dallas. [The excellence of Mary's efforts on behalf of Weber Shandwick's clients was recognized by numerous national awards.] She truly enjoyed her work, particularly the friendship of colleagues and clients in the U.S. as well as China, Japan, India and Russia.

In 1990 Mary and Greggory A. Brauer, Ph.D., were married in a joyous celebration in Seattle; they enjoyed many happy years together and shared a love of France, especially wonderful times in Paris and Provence. Mary loved life, laughter and good company. She faced her final illness as she strove to live her life, with intelligence, wit and grace.

Survivors: Husband, Gregg; sisters Helen and husband Stephen Ellis of Snohomish, Washington; Hannah and husband Michael Pacheco of Taos, N.M.; Ilene Stevens of Renton, Washington; and Irene Harris of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii; nephew Peter Ellis; nieces Mary Van der Molen and husband Aaron; Sarah Boyer and husband James; Teresa Powell and husband Phillip; Christina Johnston and husband Robert; nephew Daniel Dahners; and 14 grandnieces and nephews.

--The following is from Gregg's reaffirming heart--

I loved Mary. The bookends of our life together are embodied by Shakespeare's 105th sonnet and Christina Rossetti's poem "Remember." Between were extraordinary days lived in the abiding company of friends too numerous to name, near and far. All who knew her will attest that Mary did, indeed, live her life with intelligence, wit, and grace. I will hold her forever in my heart.
