Max was like an uncle to me. I met him when he first moved into University House where my mother lived for 7 years, and we went together to Greenlake to protest the Iraq war every Sunday. We also played many games of Scrabble. I loved him dearly. Denise Lishner, daughter of the late Frieda Milgram.

Max always took a courageous stance when it came to issues of social justice. He was a kind man. He read
King's "I Have a Dream" speech aloud to us each anniversary, and he also read
Shakespeare aloud with understanding and intensity. He teared up when he spoke of the men lost fighting in Spain. I am honored to have known him.
