Rex Sayre Obituary

Rex Alan Sayre

Rex Alan Sayre went to be with our Lord after a courageous and dignified battle with melanoma on July 12, 2015. Rex was born October 2, 1947 in Renton, Washington. He was the 3rd child born to Max and Loretta Sayre. Rex attended Riverton Heights and Sunnydale Elementary Schools, Sunset Jr. High School and graduated from Highline High School in 1966. He then joined the Navy and was stationed in California aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise which took him to Viet Nam. After that tour of duty, he was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt in the Mediterranean. In June of 1971 he married the love of his life, Taffi Martini, whom he had known since first grade. They celebrated their last anniversary together on June 19, 2015 after 44 years of dedication to one another.

In 2001 Rex retired from Safeway where he worked as a meat cutter for 38 years. Taffi retired as well and they moved to Omak in 2002 to start their retirement years on small ranch, where Rex always had a large garden. Rex enjoyed the outdoors. There was always somewhere to camp, a bird or deer to hunt and one more fish to catch. When winter came, he would retreat to his immaculate shop where he built many things, including a fly fishing boat, several model boats. He also refurbished antique outboard motors.

In 2014 Rex and Taffi moved to East Wenatchee to be closer to family and his doctors. Rex willingly went through several cancer trial treatments so doctors and patients alike would benefit in the fight to cure this horrible disease. He always thought of others.

He had tremendous faith, always giving the glory to God. He was thankful for the love of his wife, who never left his side and the outstanding medical care he received. These things kept him going the last 4 years.

Rex is survived by his wife Taffi; his brother Tom and Sylvia of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; sister Sandra McAllister of Snohomish; and brother Jon and Hazel of Olympia. He is loved and respected as a brother, brother-in-law, and uncle to his many nieces and nephews. His loving companion, Maggie , his Brittany Spaniel will especially miss him. Rex will be remembered by many, for his quirky sense of humor, his wonderful smile and his kindness to all.

A special thanks to Hospice.......especially to Allison and Corey, for their wonderful care of Rex and their encouragement and support of Taffi.

A Memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in East Wenatchee on Thursday August 20th at 1 o'clock. After the service please join us for a light meal and memories of Rex. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Wenatchee, the Wenatchee Humane Society or Wounded Warriors Project.

Seeing your picture here both breaks my heart and comforts me because I know how much I will miss you but how much I love you too. Your face is as familiar to me as my own father's. I love you, my uncle, and will see you again one day. Love forever, Marcy

Dear Tom, Sandra and Jon ,
My heart goes out for your great loss. Over the years the Sayre family and the Plumb family were like family,Rex's mom, Loretta and my mom, Jessie Powzer Plumb, were friends all the way through Tacoma Public Schools and neighbors as well. We always looked forward to going up to Seattle to see your family. My brother Donn and I had so much fun visiting with your family! Rex was so much fun! We laughed from the time we got there until it was time to go. He will be greatly missed. Blessings, to you, Taffy. You must have been blessed to share your life with him. I am so happy to hear that he was a strong man of faith.
Sincerely,
Joan Plumb Johnson
(Daughter of Chet and Jessie and sister to Donn)

I only knew Rex and Taffi through the accounts they had with the firm I worked at. Rex was always a pleasure to talk with and a sweet person. He is missed.

Like our sister, I will miss the way he answered the telephone in our weekly calls, in a higher than normal tone, Heeeelllllo. Our too few visits together, due to the long distances apart, were very special, especially when we did get to go fishing together. I loved hearing him tell of all he and Taffi did at the church. For me, this was hearing how God was growing within the two of them together. It is hard for the oldest to have to say good bye to a younger sibling, but in this case, our good bye is only for a moment as I will hear that voice saying, "Heeeellllo" as we meet again in heaven.
Love you brother. Tom

Rex was my brother-in-law. I will miss his warm smile & friendly manner to everyone he met. I will miss having discussions with him about our conservative principles & his strong patriotism. He loved his Lord, his wife, our family & his country. He was one wonderful guy & will be missed greatly.

My heart is broken and sad because Rex is no longer here on earth. He was my brother...if only by marriage....such a wonderful person. God has him now and is enjoying his humor. Rest in Peace my friend! Judi

WHAT I WILL MISS MOST ABOUT MY BROTHER

*Hearing his voice on the phone and the "I love you" he ended each conversation with.
*Reading the emails he sent almost daily, just to keep in touch.
*Finding a surprise "selfie" on my camera. He invented selfies many years ago, long before they became popular.
*Memories of the two of us driving to Texas in a Datsun sports car. We didn't even get out of Washington State the first day!
*I treasure my visits with him, especially those in his last days.

God only created one, Rex Alan Sayre, he was truly unique. I love you, brother. Sis
