Marilyn passed away Wed. Aug 23, 2018 at age 84 in Boyne City, MI at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Ionia, MI on July 16th, 1934, the daughter of Maurice and Evelyn Stebbins. She was a giving daughter, sister, mother and wife. Marilyn graduated from Saranac High School and Michigan State University. She was active in 4-H both as a club member and leader; and taught in several Michigan elementary schools. Marilyn especially enjoyed her years as owner of the Boyne City Motel in the 70's and 80's. It was here that several years of dedicated hard work produced a long list of lifetime friendships. Making friends of customers was her key to success. Dear to her heart was time employed at Gosha's/Mary's of Boyne (dress shop). She was a lifelong member of the Methodist faith.
Marilyn is survived by husband Bill Purdy, daughter Sheri (Mike) Bates of Grand Marais, MI, sons Steve Carpenter of Fruitland Park, Florida, and Tom (Laura) Carpenter of Traverse City, Michigan; along with several grand children and great grandchildren in both Michigan and Florida. Sister Ann (Gerald) Bremer of Shreveport, LA, Uncle Arlen (Maybelle) Brooks of Clarksville, MI.

I was so sad to hear about Marilyn's passing. I spend some of the winter months at Coachwood Colony in Leesburg, Florida, that's where I got to know her and Bill.
Marilyn was always very pleasant and friendly and she had a great sense of humor. She was also a vey good and dedicated shuffleboard player.
She will be missed.
