Came across this by accident. Did not realize this was online. My family and I had nothing but respect and admiration for Dr Agustyn. I met him through my nephrologist Dr Truex around 1979. Years later he became my mom's primary physician and later my husband's primary as well. He was always very professional and truely very caring. We loved his smile and always very handsome in his suits. Or condolences to his family. We still miss him but his picture in a corridor at CPMC brings a smile every time we walk past it.

I am very sorry that such a great person and Doctor is no longer here in San Francisco. I moved to San Francisco / Marin in 1987 and I had some serious GI issues. I was really in bad shape for many years and Doctor Augustyn was the most caring Doctor in my corner. I think that his positive demeanor helped to shape the attitude that I needed to totally eliminate the disease from my body. Dr. Augustyn was amazed that my body cured itself with some help from meds and the diet changes that I made. I am very grateful to have know Dr. Augustyn and to have had him as my doctor. My deepest condolences to his family. I know what they have gone through, as I lost my mother when she was age 60.

Having known Damien as a fellow student at Holy Family School when we were in Jr. high grades, I remember him to be very well balanced in all the best ways. He was kind, quiet, compassionate, unique sense of humor and a brilliant student. It is nice to read about him from those who admired him as an adult. So glad he was so much to so many in his personal life and his profession. God's blessings to his family.

I was thinking about Dr. Augustyn lately and wanted to get in contact with him. I have just discovered that and am so sad to find out that this wonderful Man and his wife have passed away. In 1985, I was 12 years ago and was referred to Dr. Augustyn by my small town pediatrician. He took such wonderful care of me. I was in the hospital for a long time and he was the one to finally discover that I hada Familial Mediterranean Fever. Thanks to him, I am living a healthy life on the medication he started me on in 1985. We exchanged Christmas cards with him over the years and then lost touch. I saw him in his office when I was 24 and that was the last time I saw this wonderful, kind doctor and human being. I wish I had known earlier so I could have attended the service. I know he is up in Heaven still watching over all of his patients :-)
