Having known Damien as a fellow student at Holy Family School when we were in Jr. high grades, I remember him to be very well balanced in all the best ways. He was kind, quiet, compassionate, unique sense of humor and a brilliant student. It is nice to read about him from those who admired him as an adult. So glad he was so much to so many in his personal life and his profession. God's blessings to his family.

I was thinking about Dr. Augustyn lately and wanted to get in contact with him. I have just discovered that and am so sad to find out that this wonderful Man and his wife have passed away. In 1985, I was 12 years ago and was referred to Dr. Augustyn by my small town pediatrician. He took such wonderful care of me. I was in the hospital for a long time and he was the one to finally discover that I hada Familial Mediterranean Fever. Thanks to him, I am living a healthy life on the medication he started me on in 1985. We exchanged Christmas cards with him over the years and then lost touch. I saw him in his office when I was 24 and that was the last time I saw this wonderful, kind doctor and human being. I wish I had known earlier so I could have attended the service. I know he is up in Heaven still watching over all of his patients :-)
Never have I known a greater man to walk this planet. He touched the sun and he knew when to let his shadow embrace those around him. I miss him terribly.
I am going to miss him very much. He was my dr. For over 15 years, he was with me thorough my surgery and welcomed me with a smile every year during my check ups. It will be hard to find a dr as sweet and patient as him. RIP Dr. Augustyn :(
Dr. Augustyn helped me through many health issues and was the most patient doctor I've know. I truly miss him.
Deepest regrets . He helped me through a difficult time 13years ago and I was just searching for him again and found this . I am deeply sorry for the loss of a great person and Dr .
He was my Dr. for 30 yrs. I will miss him. He was the sweetest most kind person.
I send my deep condolences to Dr. Augustyn's family. He was my primary doctor in San Francisco for 14 years in the 80s and 90s and helped me with many medical problems. He was a wonderful person, so full of life and always making time for patients. Skilled as a diagnostician, he was the best. My message to his family is that he lived a dedicated life doing what he loved and will always be remembered with joy. It is not the length of our stay here on earth that matters, but the way we spend our time here that makes our lives meaningful. His was a very full and meaningful life, affecting so many of us.
Dr, Augustyn, Saved my life !!! Over 12 years ago he discovered cancer in some tests. We cought it early. I will always think of him. May he rest in peace, Mr Doyle

Steve, and the entire Augustyn Family,
The recently received news of Damian's passing was a shock to all of his Seattle Prep classmates. It is wonderful to read about the tremendous impact he made in healing the sick. We mourn that Healer, as we also mourn the classmate who was over the top smart, a nice guy, and a hard worker in whatever he took on. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Rest in Peace, Damian.

It brings me great sadness to learn of Dr. Augustyn's passing. He was my Primary Care Physician for over a decade and considered him a dear and trusted guardian as well. He was an amazing physician and his care meant a great deal to me. He made such an important difference in my life and I will always be grateful to him for making it so much better.
I was preparing myself to hear of his retirement, but the news of his passing was shocking and devastating. Only having seen him just months before and thanked him for his care as always, my regret is that I never truly expressed to him, as I would have at his retirement, how much better he made my life.
Thank you Dr. Augustyn. I will never forget your care and kindness. You will be immeasurably missed, but your legacy, kindness, and humanity will live on through all of the people that you selflessly helped throughout your life. My heartfelt condolences go out to your family and loved ones.
Dr. Augustyn was a brilliant doctor and a kind and gentle soul. He saved my life 22 years ago after the birth of my first child. He has always been supportive, knowledgeable and caring as I navigated through a successful high risk pregnancy and chronic health issues. My family and I have been blessed by his kindness and applied knowledge. My deepest sympathies for his family.
I just received the letter from his practice group regarding Dr. Augustyn's passing and was shocked and saddened by the news. He was my primary physician for nearly twenty years. He was smart, compassionate, sensitive, friendly and always gave me confidence that I was in the hands of a great doctor.
The medical profession in San Francisco has lost one of its best.
I was shocked and saddened to receive the letter about Dr Augustyn. He has been my doc since I moved to SF nearly 20 years ago. I always enjoyed seeing him as he was always so cheerful and straightforward. On first glance I thought the letter from his practice was a retirement announcement and was completely dismayed to learn that he had passed. My deepest condolences to his kids. All I can say is that I looked forward to good humor and his was a great example for his profession.

My his memory be a blessing-
I am shocked and saddened to learn of Dr Augustyn's passing. He had been my doctor for over 30 Years. I first went to him when the stress of law school was getting to me and I thought I was getting an ulcer. He was a young, new doc at the time and, in his calm, cool way told me I was fine and just needed to take it a little easier. I immediately felt a bond with him and completely trusted him with all of my health issues along the way. He was incredibly kind, patient and compassionate and will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends who I am sure miss him terribly.

I referred many patients to Dr. Augustyn over the years. He had encyclopedic knowledge and outstanding technical expertise. But, more importantly, he showed real compassion and understanding for our mutual patients. We shall miss him tremendously. Paul Fitzgerald, MD
Dr. Augustyn was our physician. He was a deeply compassionate man who also had a great sense of humor, and a lot of common sense. I am healthy, but it was very reassuring to know he was there just in case. He really will be missed not only as a physician, but as a really nice guy.

Romans 15;4. You are in my thoughts.
My doctor for the last 20 years or more. He used to joke when I was young, wild and living too large that his job was to keep me alive until I was 50, which I made, much thanks to Dr. Augustyn. I always looked forward to seeing him, his warm smile, easy manner, concern and good-humored way made my visits pleasant. He was quick witted, exceptionally bright and almost always on target in determining my current ailment, and there were plenty.
To end our conversations/appointments we chatted a bit about our families, the TV shows or movies we shared in common , and then shook hands as he scurried off to see another patient.
It will be difficult to find another primary care doctor to fill his shoes.
I will certainly miss him but remind myself of his advice as I listen to his distinctive voice. He was an exceptional man and great doctor.
My condolences to to his family.
I was a patient of Dr. Augustyn's for about 19 years, as was my wife Julie. He was a great guy--smart, compassionate, and very nice. Although he had a very busy practice, he always took the time and showed considerable patience by erring on the side of trying to get to the bottom of whatever the issue was. Our thoughts are with his wife and family. He will be missed.
A great Doctor and a super nice guy. He always took the time to listen. So sorry for your loss.
Truly a remarkable person who will be greatly missed. He was our doctor, the best of the best, who was not only brilliant but so very kind and understanding. He was tremendously gifted and intelligent, but he matched those traits with equally wonderful modesty and patience. We came to him throughout our years as his patients with any number of health issues, some of which were urgent and needed immediate, expert attention--and he always came through for us with his healing gifts to keep us healthy and well, to this day. To his beloved children, family, and friends, we offer our heartfelt condolences; you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dr. Augustyn, you were God's gift to us. Thank you for everything; we will never forget you and the outstanding care that you took of us. God bless.
My condolences to the Augustyn family. I did not know Damian, but Caroline was our family doctor for many years. They both left behind a legacy of caring, courage, and integrity.
He was above all, Kind. His compassion , his deep concern and countless 'after hours' consultations with other great clinicians all over the country to assure every possible piece of information and respected opinion be given to us, his fortunate patients.
And hey everyone out there who is alive at least in good part because of the good Doctor's attention - Stand UP, raise your hands and make some joyful noise that he was in our lives, and comfort one another in the enormous grief we all feel just knowing we won't be seeing him, with that big welcoming grin . He always greeted me "How are you feeling, Young Man?" Though I'm more than a few years his senior.
He was a gift , a treasure, a wonderful human being.
To his children and nieces, nephews, future grandchildren -- You already know your dad was terrific, and you've learned a lot from both your parents, but if you take up and practice his kindness , then whatever you do, wherever your dreams and careers take you, look into your hearts as he did , bring that strong compassion to every board meeting, conference, one-on-one interactions.
These points are not at all to diminish his distinguished intellectual skills, his keen observations , his medical brilliance , but, rather, to celebrate his loving dedication to countless people . We'll all keep him in our hearts , gratefully; and that presence, too, is a gift from Damian Augustyn.
After 25 years of being Dr. Augustyn's patient, I was always aware of his gift of healing - not through excessive prescriptions or testing, but by involving me in the decisions and responsibility for my own health. There will not be another such physician. I was blessed to have been the recipient of his care and expertise.
