John was the definition of the gracious gentleman and host. Whenever I was in SF or Fallen Leaf to visit Charlie & Melanie, he and Barbara were the kindest and most thoughtful of hosts. He lead by example and raised great kids and grandkids. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is now a man for the Ages in the San Francisco medical community. We admire him and his dear family. Doctor will be missed. Carolyn Carr & family

Dear Barbara and all my precious California cousins,
I have only the fondest of memories and am so very grateful for those special visits, both here and in California. John had the most beautiful smile, totally sincere and with the ability to light up a room. His warmth was ever present and matched equally by his energetic zeal for life. Devoted to his family and always willing to stretch that term. I know you will all be feeling the void of his physical presence so may the assurance of his spiritual well being be ever on your hearts. Love and comfort to all,
Your Texas cousin,
Nancy Beckham Capra
Dear Barbara, Sara and family,
San Francisco and your family have lost a touchstone in losing John. His kind, gentle and healing presence will be missed by all. I hold my memories of him through the years close to my heart and I send my deepest sympathies to all of you, Nancy Evers Kirwan
Gentleman, gentle spirit. His light will always be in our hearts forever. Karen
If I am lucky enough to go where he has gone, I'll know where to take my bum knee! God bless a great, gentle, man.
Maynard and I continue to think about you. I feel so fortunate that
Maynard was able to visit with John the day before we left for St.
Andrews. So many friends have let us know, and we have seen both the very special write up in the Chronicle , and Barbara B. sent
along the write up from CPMC. All so very special and so touching.
We will think about you and all the family on June 19th, and will hold so many thoughts bin our hearts for all. All our love and prayers to you, and we will call you when we get home at the end of the month, Mary and Maynard
I will always remember Dr. Callander fondly from my experiences with him in Troop 14 and as a patient of his. He was a genuinely caring man who never failed to get a smile of me.
My heart goes out to the family. Michael Cahill
Dr. Callander is the epitome of a true gentleman. I had the pleasure of taking care of him during his last hospitalization and he always had a positive attitude and huge smile on his face. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
Dear Mrs. Callander and family, I am truly saddened to learn of Dr. Callanders' passing. As a young man growing up, he was a bigger than life role model for many. As you wrote, his hall mark was; his caring, enthusiasm and smile. Dr. Callander's contributions are many and legendary. He is remembered for his enthusiastic smile, commitment to his family and community and generous spirit. I cherish the many fond memories that I have of him and your family. Good wishes and peace to the Callander clan. Regards, Alex, Lane, Angus and Ireland Applegarth - Westfield, NJ
