Possibly one of the two most influential people of my formative years....Peter Burgess and his mother Mary Elizabeth helped me recognize what quality of life is. For this, after more than thirty years, I always have yellow iris and beautiful big rhodies growing in my garden...
Farewell dear Peter, my first real love more than 60 years ago and always a faithful friend. Heather
Grandpa, I miss you so much!!! Life is NOT the same without you. I wish I could look into your eyes, hear your voice, hear your laughter one more time. There are so many things I want to say to you, but I will tell you in my own way. I will always love you more than words can say.
Generous, innovative, charismatic. We speak of him to this day. His philosophy of life and attitude will be with me forever as will the vision of the Lodge he inhabited. Such a unique individual. When is the spring memorial?
I have fond memories of Dr Burgess taking
the time to teach a new student the ways of radiology. He was always patient with all of us as we were learning our way through our radiology course at General Hospigal. He was a gentle man in all that he did. Blessing to the family in your time of loss.
My heart and sympathies go out to my dear friend Bekah and Pam. My family and I are truly sorry for you loss.
Humboldt County has lost a truly remarkable man. I had the pleasure of working under the direction of Dr. Burgess during my radiology training in the mid 1970's. He was always caring,kind,soft-spoken and displayed an incredible amount of patience not only with the students but also with the patients we received. Reading the lovely obituary brought back fond memories...My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
Humboldt County lost a great man, physician and world healer/teacher when Peter passed. My heartfelt condolences go out to all the family. R.I.P. Dr. Burgess.
I was privileged to be Peter's radiology partner for around 15 years and friend for the remainder of his life. I learned much about radiology from Peter but much more from his example as a truly caring physician and humanitarian. His exuberance for life was legendary and his quest for new experiences and knowledge insatiable. He was a true "Renaissance Man". Saying he was unforgettable doesn't do Peter justice.
What a wonderful life Dr. Burgess had. I worked with him at Eureka General Hospital in the 70's when I was 20 years old. He was a kind and wonderful man. Best wishes to his family and friends.
One of the most amazing men I have had the pleasure of knowing. His love of life was infectious. R.I.P.
Peter and Ann Burgess were close friends when we all lived in Palo Alto, Ca.
I seemed to be always pregnant and had sons, so one day I asked Peter to pierce my ears, and in that way Phillip, my husband and I would have a daughter. Well the baby was a boy and of course named for his Godfather Peter.
A lot of laughs are remembered and happy moments.
A safe journey Peter Burgess
with great love
What an extraordinary individual, as this eloquent obituary makes clear. I'm honored to have known him and several of his equally-rare friends and relatives.
I'll never forget you Grampa. I love you! You are in my heart forever.
I met Peter when I lived on the Felt Road property in the mid 80's. Peter's grand daughter Amber is my daughter. I took care of Rebekah until she was almost 3.
Peter was one of the most kindest, gentlest, and most generous man I have ever met. He gave so much to so many people. I am very proud to say I knew him. Peter was always there for everyone. I think the obituary is right on and couldn't have been written any better.
Heartfelt condolences and thoughts to Pam, Bekah and the rest of the family.
This was such a moving and informative obituary. I did not know Dr. Burgess, however I do know at least one of his friends. I felt compelled to extend my sincere sympathy to his family and friends. What a wonderful gentleman. It sounds to me as though he was a grand inspiration to many. Rest In Paradise, Kind Man. Respectfully,
I am sorry to hear of Dr. Burgess' passing. I was happy to see that the place on Felt Rd. will be kept in the family. I lived on Felt Rd. for a time and marveled at watching him run, rain or shine (even during flood times). At first he ran with a large flat rock on his shoulder and later with his new baby in the crook of his arm (tho not in the rain). R.I.P. Peter Birgess.
I loved Dr Burgess he was so nice and fun to be around I met him in radiology i was having a contrast procedure and he took my hand and told me everything will be ok
I knew his mother Mary and loved her as well
Both of them were high quality and upper crust
My thoughts and prayers to the family. I knew Peter from Humboldt Radiology, and was fond of him for being so kind and dedicated to his patients and to the staff. His love of life was infectious. It was a pleasure to have met and been acquainted with him.
I met Dr. Burgess when he began work at Eureka General Hospital. I was an X-ray Technician assisting him with his arteriograms. He was always a tall bundle of energy then and it is with pride to have known this man and his accomplishments. His world trips and the sharing of his talents and skills I'm sure were greatly valued by those he served. Condolences to his family. Respectfully, Richard Gordon, RT, CRT, BS
This is one of the most lovely (and loving) obits I've read. I'm sorry I never knew Peter; he sounds like a caring, inspirational gentleman. My condolences to his family and friends.
Samantha and family,
I so remember how kind Dr. Burgess was to all his patients. He made an impression about healing on a very young nurse, I am so sorry to hear about his passing, but a smile in my heart that I had known him. My deepest condolences to his family and big hugs. He was a good man.
