Bob was my Beta Theta Pi fraternity brother and classmate at Johns Hopkins, Class of 1964, and a very close friend. We enjoyed many things together, as we grew to be young men during those years. I returned from our Class' 50th Reunion last week deeply saddened after learning of Bob's passing. I was looking forward very much to seeing him again and sharing what friends share. Bob was an extremely thoughtful, truly decent man, and I know he left a warm, kind touch with many, many people. He will be missed very much. Michael J. Levin

May cherished memories give you strength and comfort to continue without your beloved one.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Bob. Always a smile, always a hug, always a gentleman. The world, medicine, and the sailing community are all better from his contributions to them. Our sincere condolences to Sandra and the entire family. With love....Chris and Joyce
My condolences to Sandy and the rest of your family. I had the privilege of co-working with Dr. Swanson when the New Skin Clinic was in The Bay Club Marin. He was kind, gentle and had a great sense of humor. I am so sorry for your loss.
Great man, great smile, good friend, excellent surgeon. You will be missed.

Robert you are a very special person. You are inspiring, intelligent and kind. I am honored to know and have worked for you.
What a tragedy to lose such a sparkling, talented man. My Love and Strength go out to you Sandy, Christina and Jensen.
I had the pleasure of working with Bob for many years in Massachusetts and I am so incredibly saddened to hear of his passing. Bob, you meant so much to so many and will never be forgotten. You were one of a kind and treated everyone with respect regardless of their socioeconomic position. Thank you for your friendship, your leadership and your life lessons. Cheers, Mate!
I am deeply saddened by this news . I've worked on numerous cases in the Alta Bates OR with Bob, a great person, surgeon , teacher and leader. He will be sorely missed. My condolances to Mrs. Swanson and family.
Swani you were such a bright light in my surgical career. We always seemed to be connected. Words and requests were not necessary. Your surgical hands were the best- sound and gentle and knew where they were always going. You were the best at "holding court" and hogged the lounge couch for your naps. Criticism and praise was always from your heart. Your friendship I cherished and when I emailed you on your birthday and got no response I knew you were struggling. You are over the hard part of life's transfer so sail into the sunset.
Mrs Swanson, Christina and Jensen you were so fortunate to have him in your lives. He spoke of you all constantly with love and excitement in his voice. Each of us have to give up those special people in our lives. He will be forever with you, and all of us who knew him. How lucky can we be?
Sail on, Swani. What an incredibly accomplished man you were.
I worked closely with Bob for many years. This summation of his life's work is impressive, but no static summary could capture his effect on the people around him. As a friend, teacher and partner, he will be deeply missed
As a friend and colleague of Gary's, on behalf of my husband Gioacchino and our daughters, Sirad & Victoria, I would like to extend our condolences to Dr. Swanson's family. With deepest sympathy, Carolyn Balducci, Montauk NY

Sandra, I do not know you personally but we hold a "bond" through PSP. I lost my sister in Jan. 2012 from this horrible disease. I am so sorry for your loss. Your husband sounds like a person who was very gifted and gave of himself to many. May God Bless you and your family during this time.
So sorry to learn of Dr. Swanson's passing. What a clever, elegant and pleasant gentleman who was much admired by all who knew him. My condolences, love and thoughts to Sandy, Cristina and Jensen. xo Walter Crump, Jr.
Dr. Swanson's vascular surgery team @ Alta Bates was indeed fortunate to have so much time repairing sick vessels alongside this genius surgeon. I met him in the mid-70s & was incredibly impressed for many years. He and his partner, Dr. Braunstein, were our leaders. Truly enlightened...he bestowed love & justice on us all. We loved him. And talk about handsome! Yikes! God bless his family.
We did not know Dr Swanson, but we do know Jensen. Our most sinscere condolences. Your father sounded like an amazing person. We are available if you need anything.
A beautiful light has gone out. Never knew him without a smile, a wink, and something hilarious on his lips. Bob was the complete package, smart, a gentleman, true sportsman, and a true friend. He is sorely missed.

I am speechless reading the Obituary of this wonderful man! I learned only last week that he was gravely ill. I was shocked, one reason being that he was always the picture of health! To Sandra and his family I say you are all in my thoughts and know the memories of the fabulous times you shared with your husband, father, father in law, brother and son, will comfort you in the days and years to come. Robert was one special guy...
