My memories of mom,
I can remember my young mother how beautiful she was! Who would bounce me on her knee, and would play this little piggy went to the market and tickle me. I could never get enough. I remember her taking us shopping in Los Angeles when we lived there. And if we behaved she would take us for a ride up and down Angel's flight trolley and maybe buy us a treat like ginger bread cookie men. I remember asking her once, which of us was her favorite? She said, "I love you all the same". When we moved to West Covina I went into the first grade. The teaching there was well ahead of my previous school. They were reading and I had yet to learn the alphabet. My mom would not let them hold me back a grade. My teacher, Mrs. Trout was great. She furnished my mother with the materials from the previous year to take home and get me caught up. Every night that year my mom would work with me at the dinner table teaching me to read and write, to add and subtract. I would get tired and complain. She would tell me just a little more, we're almost finished. You want to catch up to your classmates don't you? How wise was she! From time to time she would sit us kids down to read through the illustrated Bible stories they had bought us. Adam and Eve, Cain and Able, Abraham and Isaac, David and Goliath, Daniel and the lions. I told her I believed them all except for Noah's arc. She told me I had to believe all the Bible. That God said it and He cannot tell a lie! How faithful was she! Sometimes I would come home and would find my mother on her knees praying, sometimes with tears for her mother or family back home. When I was a teen I caused my mother much grief. I broke a lot of promises to her. I made a lot of excuses. I wasn't going to school. I was making bad choices. She never gave up on me though. Now being too big to spank, when she would get angry with me because of my behavior, she would do so in front of my friends to embarrass me...I knew I could not win this one. I was easily embarrassed. My mom did not know embarrassment. How passionate was she! When she met the girl I wanted to marry and her family; all mom could say over and over to me was "how come you're so smart?" When our daughter was born we told my mother that we wanted to give her name Dolores as her middle name. My mom was honored but asked us not to do that because of the meaning of the name which is Lady of Sorrows. My mom did have sorrows. She did suffer. I saw it. But God did bless her too! I saw how she adored my father. I remember her proud smiles as she rocked my sister and brother in their cribs. I remember her laughing at my silly jokes. I saw her holding her grandchildren and now great grandson. She glowed! God gave her a family of her own. Her family is what was most precious to her. She was proud of all of us. Noel, Darryl, Alanna, Neal, Zouvart, Erinn, Paul, Kyle and Issac. She loved us all the Same! Dolores...how wonderful was she!

Thank you for giving me your wonderful son, Darryl, and making me a part of a precious family with Tom, Alanna, and Neal; and of course, being blessed with Erinn, Paul, Kyle, and Issac. I'm blessed to be your daughter also, and I really miss you Mom.
