For Sheila...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

For Sheila, a much loved neighbor of Sag Harbor. We were very glad to count you as our culinary friend. You bring smiles to our faces every time your name is evoked. Your sparkling glint will be a treasured memory. Your perfectly chosen, housegift will be cherished always. Thank you for your many culinary contributions that will live on in many, many households across the nation. Celebrate!!!

For years I cooked with Around the World. I still make the jerk marinade and ginger cookies every month. When we moved to the Bahamas I could only take a few cook books with me. I took Celebrate. From lemon curd to chicken wings, that book has everything I need. It is my bible, my guide to dinner parties, holidays and special dishes for any occasion. Love the ethnic menus, especially the morrocan dinner. I always looked forward to her recipes in Parade. Recipes that always worked.

Shiela left us too soon. I will miss her fresh ideas but will treasure the recipes she left us. God bless her family and her memory.

I am saddened by the news of Ms. Lukins' passing. Her Silver Palate cookbook from 1982 is my favorite among my many books. Have tried lots of the recipes successfully over the years. Her illustrations are wonderful!
My sincere sympathy to the family of Sheila, may you find peace and comfort.

I knew Ms Lukins from a 'cherry trip' I had the pleasure to escort her on a few years ago when she visited Northern Michigan. She was gathering information on a new book that was to feature cherry recipes. She was a gracious soul. So very kind to someone she did not know. So full of lfie. I was surprised at her small stature, but she filled it with so much love of life. I will forever remember the day that I spent as Sheila Lukins chauffer with fond memories. I will miss her each Sunday when I read the Parade Magazine and every time I pass a cherry orchard. Betty Renner (Petoskey, Michigan)

Sheila, may you bring much sunshine and happiness to the next place on your journey; the same exuberance that you brought us here! Patti (Bakersfield, CA)

Culinary loss. Every recipe from Silver Palate was perfection. May the memories of the creation of those magnificant recipes bring you solace and comfort.
