D. Harbin Boddie was born on December 22, 1916 and went to be with our Heavenly Father on May 16, 2013 following a brief illness. Harbin Boddie was born in Waller, TX, to Rev. David Baker and Ella Mae Kegler Boddie. Harbin moved often during his childhood, as do Methodist ministers' families. This afforded him a basis for many stories that he loved sharing with friends and family. After graduating from Bolton High School, he attended Centenary College. His college was interrupted in order to serve in the United States Army for four years during World War II. He returned to Centenary College after the war and graduated in 1946. He was one of the earliest members of the Centenary College Choir, under the direction of long- time friend, Dr. A. C. "Cheesy" Voran. Harbin remained connected to Centenary College in many areas. In 2011 he was awarded the Alumni Loyalty Award, one of his most cherished honors.
Mr. Boddie was a long time educator in Caddo Parish. He served as teacher at Cotton Valley High School, Fair Park High School and Lakeshore JR High School before becoming a counselor at Broadmoor JR High School. He then became Attendance Supervisor for Caddo Parish School Board, and when he retired in 1973, he was the Principal of Queensborough Elementary School. He remained active in the Caddo Retired Teachers' Association and the Louisiana Retired Teachers' Association.
He was a faithful member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of Freeman Fellowship Sunday School Class. His greatest joy was serving his Lord through music as a member of the Chancel Choir, retiring after 64 years of loyal service.
While living at Live Oak, Harbin enjoyed the many activities offered, especially being a part of the Astros Bean Bag Baseball Team. They competed in the Senior Olympics many times and he earned many Gold medals. In May 2009, Harbin was able to continue his allegiance to his country by traveling with Louisiana Honor Air to Washington, DC to view the recently completed WWII Memorial.
Mr. Boddie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thomasine Armstrong Boddie; brother, Rev. Wyatt David (WD) Boddie; sisters-in-law, Margaret Boddie and Agnes "Sing" Boddie.
Left to cherish Harbin's precious memory are his daughter, Harriett Ellen Boddie; son, Thomas Harbin Boddie; granddaughter, Kristin Elizabeth Sibley; brother, George Baker "Jack" Boddie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Harbin as pallbearers will be Jim Bahm, Judge Eugene Bryson, James Goins, William Gerardy, Brad McPherson and Robert "Chris" Middleton
Honorary pallbearers will be; the members of Freeman Fellowship Class.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Live Oak for their friendship and care, and all of the WK Hospital staff for their care and compassion during his recent illness.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon, Shreveport, LA 71101 or Centenary College of Louisiana Boddie-Baker Scholarship Fund.
At Harbin's request, if he has ever had the privilege of singing with you in any choir please join the Noel Chancel Choir as they sing
"How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place".

Your dad was a kind, gentle, caring gentleman with one of the warmest and wonderful laughs I have ever experienced. I met him when I moved to Shreveport in 1957 to work in the public school system; he was a counselor at Broadmoor Junior High. He sincerely cared for each youngster and wanted to be certain that all students received the services that could help them reach their potential in every area. He is one of those people that once you meet him, you will never forget him, because he was so special.

Harriett and Thomas,
Your dad and mine were such good friends and had many good times together. Harbin helped me more than you know when Dad's health began to fail. We managed to continue to exchange Christmas greetings through these past years, and I will surely miss his annual card. I can only imagine that he and Cheesy are busy "planning" their eternal days together.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Dudley Harbin Boddie our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Harbin. And to Harbin it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army and also for his many years of dedicated service as a Louisiana educator. Harbin, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Harbin's family and loved ones.
