I knew Jim back in the 70's when I was still in Shreveport, a 1974 graduate of Centenary. I am so sad to hear so late that he passed. I am happy to hear that Guy and Lane were pall bearers, just wish I knew so I could be there. Bob Hickman

I only knew Mr. Montgomery through the foundation grant. However, he was always a kind and polite gentleman.

Mr. Montgomery was such a wonderful, compassionate man. We are sorry for your loss. His helpful and thoughtful manner meant so much to us at the Shepherd's Farm. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Beaird Foundation, and all who knew and loved him.

I looked up to Jim. He was sharp as a tack and a class act. What a great writer and person. I will truly miss him.

Jim was a great friend to us both.

Jim and I were classmates and Centenary Choir buddies. I loved his wit and revelled in his accomplishments as a Shreveport resident in his later life. As someone said, he was truly "Mr. Shreveport." Jim, we are all better from having known you. Love and miss you, Janie Wroten Deterly

Jim and I were in several plays together. He was the best. Laughter was his mantra. I have been away from Shreveport for a long time but I have never forgotten Jim. Port Players, the meledrama theatre that was at the Fair Grounds as well as Shreveport Little Theatre, Jim was wonderful to work with. You will be missed.

I worked for several years at the The Times/Journal but my best memories of Jim were the many theatre performances my three daughters and I saw him perform in. The most memorable one was the Peter Pan Players performance of "Pinocchio" when he played the part of J. Worthington Foulfellow. After the play was over all the actors stood at the entrance so they could sign programs for the kids and my youngest daughter, who was around 5 at the time, after having all the others sign hers refused to let him sign it because she said, "No, you're mean!" He and I had a good laugh over that. Well, he wasn't mean...he was a wonderful person to have as a friend.

Jim, an old and wise soul with sharp wit. A great and sensitive friend. A leader with a long view, willing to work on projects that took years, and made Shreveport a better place. Gone too soon. But now, resting in peace. Miss you terribly.

Jim was a great mentor and inspiration to so many who worked with him. I will always appreciate his giving me an opportunity to write for the JournalPage. Rest in peace, my friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a fellow Centenary Choir member, fellow speech major, fraternity brother, frequent bridge partner, and generally good friend. I am saddened that he is no longer part of this world, and I know that Shreveport is poorer for his leaving.

Rest in peace, Jim. You were a great friend and joyful presence.

Thank you, Jim, for all you did for Shreveport/Bossier City and all of Louisiana - and for the inspiration you provided for me and others. You will be deeply missed in our lives and community. Your legacy lives on.

My boss for more than a decade at the Journalpage, Jim was a generous editor, a guest speaker in my classes at Centenary, a thespian who brought much joy to me and my family, and a friend.

I first met Jim 46 years ago when we sang in the Centenary Choir together, and we continued to work together in the theater community in Shreveport. What a wonderful, witty, talented man he was. He will be greatly missed by the community to which he dedicated so much time and energy. Rest peacefully, friend.

Jim Montgomery was mentor to many, friend to many and an example to all. I count myself blessed to have known him. I've always thought of Jim as "Mr. Shreveport" because of his tireless work in many venues for this city and its people. What a terrible loss! My condolences to his family and friends.

My first job at 15 years old was at The Times in the sports department. During the seven years I was there, I learned so much from everyone, including Jim. He had a unique style and a wonderful sense of humor. God bless the family and friends.

Jim was a friend and confidant during the turbulent mid-1970s. His death came as a surprise to us and we will pray for him. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Jim was a strong, positive force in both intellect and mission, a role model. It was always a treat to see him in action, making the community a little better, step by step. What a loss, what a wonderful legacy.
