To Jerri, Jan, Larry, Margaret, Gene, and Families:
As you all know, due to circumstances of life, Donald came to live with his Sibley grand-parents (who are my parents) while still just a young boy. We spent some of our formative years, growing up, together. Don was the oldest, then my brother, Johnny, then Gene, and Me! Being the baby of the bunch, I am sure I caused them much grief, many times!
When we were still young, I often thought Donald was arrogant!! I later realized that what I thought was arrogance, was simply extreme self-confidence that was developed from assuming a position of responsibility beyond his years . . . again, due to circumstances of life, over which he had no control.
That self-confidence became a guide and motivator that enabled Don to achieve many goals in his life. His rapid promotions in the Air Force led up through the ranks, resulting in him attaining the rank of Major!
Don was a genuine Patriot and a guardian of our Liberty. Many nights, as we all slept peacefully in our beds, Don and his flight crew were plying the night skies, ensuring our safety!
And so, even though Don had his faults, as we all do, I choose to remember him as a valued relative, and a dedicated American Hero.
Thank you, Major Donald Wayne Barnes, for your love and regard for your Barnes/Sibley families, and Thank you, for your love and service to your Country.
May God Bless and keep the Barnes family, and God Bless America.
(For those who do not know, Donald was my nephew, although, he was 4 years older!)
