Jeanette Owens
SHREVEPORT, LA - A Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Jeanette Owens will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Bill McBride. Lunch will be served at the church following the service.
Jeanette was born June 18, 1941 in Shreveport, LA and passed away Sunday, December 16,2012, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center. She was an active member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church for 40 years. Jeanette was in charge of the kitchen and was organizer of all church activities involving the kitchen. She was a member of the Altar Guild and ECW.
A graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, she made Shreveport her home. She and her husband, Tom Owens, were owners of Cotten's Grocery for 32 years.
Jeanette enjoyed traveling and was a world traveler. She and her husband visited many interesting places, and everyone was her "favorite". Jeanette was a "history buff' and enjoyed visiting historic plantation homes with her aunt, Martha Gordon. These two started this "hobby" when Jeanette was only 11 years old. Jeanette also enjoyed her membership in the Eastern Star.
Her parents, son, Jim Owens, sister, Toni Carpenter, and brother, Grady Davidson, preceded Jeanette in death. The ones who will be most profoundly deprived of the warmth of her personality and the strength of her character are her beloved husband of 53 years, Tom Owens; daughter, Michele Owens; grandchildren, Connor Brady and Laurel Brady; sister, Debbie Beach; sisters-in-law, Linda Davison and Pat Davis; brother-in-law, Earl Owens; and aunts, Martha Gordon and Margie Davison.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of the critical care unit at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, especially Dr. Richard Morrison, and his nurse, Katie. You were our "angels on earth".
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthias Episcopal Church Kitchen Fund, 3301 St. Matthias Drive, Shreveport, LA 71109.
