Ray was a friend that I will always remember from my Adult Scout Leader days.
He was an inspiration to all who worked with him.

Mr. Owens was BSA Scout Executive of Norwela Council, BSA while I was a Boy Scout. I eventually became an Eagle Scout w/Silver Palm in Troop #48 (1964)from Blanchard, Louisiana while he was the Council Executive. I've held various positions of Adult leadership thru out my BSA Scouting experience and will "MISS" Ray Owens greatly!!

Mr. Ray was a kind and quiet gentleman with a willingness to help others. I am grateful to have worked with him in our genealogy association. He was a most respected citizen and veteran.

Raymon Owens was an avid genealogist who took a keen interest not only in the lives of his immediate and extended family, but also those of his ancestors, the stories of whose lives he took great joy in discovering and recreating through his research. For the last fifteen years of his life he lived, breathed, and shared the joy of genealogical research with fellow members of the Ark-La-Texas Genealogical Association, whom he served as its President or as an active member of its Board of Directors. Not surprisingly, Ray was instrumental in bringing the association's annual seminar to the church he loved, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, filling Pearce Activity Hall repeatedly with genealogical and historical researchers from the multistate region. His fellow genealogists remember Ray best, however, when he brought several of his ancestors to life before us with that characteristic twinkle in his eye and a sharp wit that made each telling a hats-off event. We admire the man and we mourn his passing.
Philip Adderley, President, Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association, Inc., Shreveport, Louisiana.

I had many great contacts with Ray while working in the Boy Scouts as a Troop and Post Leader and as a District Training Chairman. He was a wonderful person.

I too was one if the lucky ones to have known Peggy and Ray my entire life. Our families were so entwined. He will be missed by so many but what a way to end a wonderful life! Daddy had to wait a long time to be joined by Mother, Peggy, and Ray but I know they are all having a great time catching up. I would be there if I could but I am in San Antonio with a new granddaughter.
