Raymon Owens was an avid genealogist who took a keen interest not only in the lives of his immediate and extended family, but also those of his ancestors, the stories of whose lives he took great joy in discovering and recreating through his research. For the last fifteen years of his life he lived, breathed, and shared the joy of genealogical research with fellow members of the Ark-La-Texas Genealogical Association, whom he served as its President or as an active member of its Board of Directors. Not surprisingly, Ray was instrumental in bringing the association's annual seminar to the church he loved, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, filling Pearce Activity Hall repeatedly with genealogical and historical researchers from the multistate region. His fellow genealogists remember Ray best, however, when he brought several of his ancestors to life before us with that characteristic twinkle in his eye and a sharp wit that made each telling a hats-off event. We admire the man and we mourn his passing.

I too was one if the lucky ones to have known Peggy and Ray my entire life. Our families were so entwined. He will be missed by so many but what a way to end a wonderful life! Daddy had to wait a long time to be joined by Mother, Peggy, and Ray but I know they are all having a great time catching up. I would be there if I could but I am in San Antonio with a new granddaughter.

I was fortunate to have known Ray for all of my life. His selfless service to his family, his country, his community and his God are an example of what we all should strive to achieve. He gave all of this to us with a soft-spoken manner that showed the true depth of his faith.
My sympathies and love go out to all of his family. I will continue to celebrate the life that he lived and be thankful that I could share a little of it.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Raymon L. Owens our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Raymon. And to Raymon it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army. Raymon, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Raymon's family and loved ones.

Ray was a true gentleman, quiet and humble, but passionate when he talked about Scouting, where he was such an influence for so long. His wry wit, friendly greetings and willingness to serve wherever he could in Scouting or his church will be missed.
