Raymon Owens was an avid genealogist who took a keen interest not only in the lives of his immediate and extended family, but also those of his ancestors, the stories of whose lives he took great joy in discovering and recreating through his research. For the last fifteen years of his life he lived, breathed, and shared the joy of genealogical research with fellow members of the Ark-La-Texas Genealogical Association, whom he served as its President or as an active member of its Board of Directors. Not surprisingly, Ray was instrumental in bringing the association's annual seminar to the church he loved, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, filling Pearce Activity Hall repeatedly with genealogical and historical researchers from the multistate region. His fellow genealogists remember Ray best, however, when he brought several of his ancestors to life before us with that characteristic twinkle in his eye and a sharp wit that made each telling a hats-off event. We admire the man and we mourn his passing.
Philip Adderley, President, Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association, Inc., Shreveport, Louisiana.
