Sandra Jean Monroe Brown
"Sandy"
KEITHVILLE, LA - Sandy Brown left her earthly bonds on Sunday, January 20, 2013 with loving family at her side. Visitation will be held 4:30-6:30 pm on Thursday January 24, 2013, at Centuries Memorial Chapel, 8801 Mansfield Road, followed by a brief memorial of her relatively short but wonderful life.
Sandy was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 5, 1954 to Wallace and Betty Monroe. They moved to Shreveport around 1966, and Sandy graduated from Southwood High School. After graduation, she moved to California to be with her husband Randy in the Marines. It was there that she began her lifelong career in the medical insurance field, and was employed for the last 16 years of her life as a director at Willis-Knighton Health Plus.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Betty Monroe, and siblings Renee' Guill and Reid Monroe. Sandy is survived by her husband of 41 years Randy Brown, daughters Shannon Wicklund and husband Aaron of Shreveport, Erin Hanson and husband Kurt of Stonewall, grandchildren Hunter Hanson, Walker Wicklund and Weslynn Wicklund (who all called her "Nanny"), aunt and uncle Rose and Matthew Chaplin, mother-in-law Betty Brown Hunter, nephew A.J. Guill, various cousins and many wonderful friends. Sandy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 40/8 La Femmes, Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club and she was an accomplished alligator hunter.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of WK North MICU for their expert and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LA Association for the Blind or charity of choice.

Randy,
Diane and I just learned of Sandy's passing while looking for you guys on the internet. We are so very sorry for your loss and saddened that we will never see her smiling face again....
She was a very special lady and you two were a great couple. We had some great times in California, especially when your mom and Walter visited. We are so sorry we didn't keep in touch over the years. We do remember the time we visited you guys in Shreveport though when our kids were very young.
I will try contacting you soon...

Sandy Monroe was my best friend in high school. That girl could make me laugh! After graduation, we went our separate ways. She got married and moved off and I went to LA Tech to pursue a degree in education. We wrote and stayed in touch for a while, but despite our best intentions, we lost contact. It has been 41 years since I've last seen Sandy, but I recognized her picture with the obituary in the Times. It would appear that she lead a full and happy life surrounded by family and friends. I will say a prayer for her family.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Mrs. Sandra Brown a dedicated member of Unit 14 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. To her family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Sandy. And to Sandy it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank her for her service and devotion to her family, her country and the American Legion Post 14. Sandy we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Sandy's family and loved ones.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We loved Sandy so much and will greatly miss her, along with all the others' lives whom Sandy touched.
Randy, you know that if we can ever be of any help to you, we're just a phone call away. We love you and your family dearly and know that you are hurting right now. Be blessed that the Lord has decided he was missing an angel and called Sandy home to rest. For now she made whole again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Sandy's family. She was such a sweet lady. I work for DST and worked with Sandy for many years. When my grandmother passed a few years ago she was someone that helped me through the tough days. My heart goes out to her family. The earth has lost a special lady.
