Very sorry to hear of the passing of John Ryan. John was a dedicated chief officer of the FDNY and a great friend to all who knew him. His warm friendly personality made working with him a pleasure. He was a long time supporter of our Battalion 1 yearly luncheon and it was always a good time to be in his company. My condolences to John's family and friends. May he be at peace.

RIP Chief John Ryan (retired FDNY), father of my good friend Father Steve Ryan SDB. GREAT MAN. Mike Hatem and I attended Chief Ryan's retirement dinner in NYC in 1995 and presented him a CFD pick head axe. He was quite impressed with this gift from the Ohio "landlubbers." Six weeks after 9-11, Chief Ryan was the main escort for a group of 10 CFD members who visited NYC and attended several funerals of our FDNY brothers who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Chief Ryan used his credentials to get our group inside the gates and we stood on top of partially-destroyed Station #10 at Ground Zero for hours observing our FDNY brothers work on "The Pile." Then he took us to a Manhattan steak house and secretly paid the entire tab for our group. Great memories of a great guy! May God Bless his soul and the entire Ryan family.
