Lowell Jerome Brown, M.D. 1934 - 2017
Springfield, IL—Lowell Jerome Brown, M.D., 83, of Springfield, died at 11:40 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Heritage Hospice.
Lowell was born February 27, 1934 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Joseph Francis and Ruth Moore Brown. He married Veronica Mulholand on July 21, 1962 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ripon, CA.
Lowell graduated from Stanford University in 1956 and then earned his medical degree from Creighton Medical School in Omaha, NE. He had a general practice residency in Modesto, CA. Lowell then entered private practice in Los Banos, CA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 12 years. He began his service with the Marines at Camp Pendleton. He completed a residency in Pathology at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. Lowell was a Commander in the Navy and Chief of Staff of the U.S. Naval Hospital at Subic Bay in the Republic of the Philippines. After separating from the Navy, he was employed by Humana Hospital in South Western Virginia and was also a Medical Examiner for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 1979, he relocated to Springfield and was employed by Humana as a Pathologist where he later returned to general practice. Lowell was board certified in Clinical & Surgical Pathology.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Medical Association, Sangamon County Medical Society and Stanford Alumni Association. Lowell was passionate about playing bridge and was a Life Master Bridge player. He also enjoyed golf, watching movies and was an avid traveler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica of Springfield; children, Neil M. (Julie) Brown of Rochester, Brendan J. Brown of New York, NY, Caitlin Brown Horton of Minnesota, and Terence D. (Jennifer) Brown of Springfield; grandchildren, Jourdan C. Horton, Veronica R. Horton, Andrew J. Cline, Anna K. Brown, Neil R. Brown, and Clare V. Brown; siblings, Elliott D. (Virginia) Brown of Salinas, CA and Meredith (David) Brown Burnham of San Jose, CA; sisters-in-law, Kathleen M. Funke and Sharon M. Groen, both of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering: Family will host a memorial gathering from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Braden Maher, celebrant.
Burial will be held at a later date at St. John's Cemetery in Ripon, CA.

To the Brown family, Sorry for Dr. Lowells passing. He was a wonderful doctor, as I was a patient of his for several years until he retired.
