I worked for Slater when he coached the ABA's Houston Mavericks in the late 1960's. That was a huge honor for me. I respected and admired him and had loved watching him play basketball. God bless him and the family.

As a high school student in the mid 1950's, I enjoyed listening to the late Boston Celtic Radio announcer, Johnny Most, describe Slater Martins' awesome defensive work against Bob Cousy. Slater Martin was both feared and respected by Celtic fans.
