Carl NIELSEN Obituary
Aged 86 years
Industrial Designer and Educator at UTS. After many long years of suffering the ravages of dementia on mind and body, Carl died quietly and peacefully at Bayview on Saturday July 30th 2016. As his wife Judy of 52 years, I am honoring our long held promise to one another, there will be no funeral service. For myself, thank you to all those who visited and gave me the comfort over the years which will stay with me in my heart. Carl, you will be remembered with love in all our hearts, and thanks for the loving memories of our shared life. I miss you. Judy

Carl was a significant figure in consolidating Industrial Design presence in Australia, and influenced many through his professional consultancy work and teaching at SCA and latter UTS.
He was my graduation project supervisor at Sydney College of Arts during the 1980's. He could be intimidating, but we had a lot of respect for him and his accomplishments.

My friendship with Judy and Carl began some fifty years ago when Tony began a work association with Carl. We were close friends for a very long time and I and our other dear friends miss him dearly. We had wonderful holidays spending many happy hours together.
Professionally Carl was held in high esteem in his field of Industrial Design leaving a most important legacy .
Judy and I share many happy memories.

I was terribly sad to hear of Carls death and i thank Good Design Australia for letting the design community know..Carl stands tall in the history of industrial design in Australia and will be long remembered. he was most supportive to me in my early days of practice as a graphic designer and we shared many a thought on where design was going. He of course knew because he was the face of design for many years. Quentin and i send our deep sympathy to Judy and their family Michael Bryce

Carl has been a great friend and mentor to me for over 30 years. His insights and guidance in both a professional and personal sense have been invaluable.
Carl has done more than anyone else I know to raise the profile of Industrial Design in Australia. His ethics in business and passion for design education have contributed to many employed in design today. Carl's legacy will live on in many of us.
I am grateful for the many good times we have had together. Marilyn and I will miss you.
