A very sad news, Kate and I met Wolfie in Birdville . We worked together on a community mosaic in Birdville. Over the time we were together we got to know Wolfie and found what a generous man he was. He made our stay in Birdville memorable.
We met him again in Quilpie where he was having an exhibition and some months later Wolfie and his dog come to stay with us in Warwick.
We have fond memories of the great man and great artist Wolfie was.

Wolfy what a pleasure to have met you and what an inspirational human being. Your joy for life, love of nature and the environment was so evident & masterfully captured throughout your Birdsville desert art pieces. I am richer for having met you and extend my sympathy to Karsten.

We met with Wolfgang many times during his business trips to Prague, Czech Republic, in the eighties of the last century. From the very beginning he showed himself not only as the amazing textile designer, but also as a great person who shared his joy and passion for a free life. We became friends during the time and when the communist regime finally ended in my country and we could start travelling freely abroad I had the chance to fly to Australia and spent wonderful five days with him in the desert, in his studio and also on high bar chairs in the Birdsville hotel. It happened many years ago but for me it is still like it was yesterday and finding this sad news really hit me. Gonna miss you, Wolfi

I can not express the loss I feel whilst at the same time the peace knowing you are free to explore again. I miss you. The last couple of years have been very hard and even though you suffered so much you held your head high and maintained your humour. You loved the camp out under the stars with dear friends from south Australia and insisted on walking back to your room with the support of three of us , the wheelchair not far away. Two days before you left us I told you not to hold on to this body as it was failing I know you were so frustrated. We discussed life and death a lot and swore we would come back as pelicans if we had a choice, I know you will remember this. I feel so loved by you, you taught me so much. I never really thought you would follow me into the desert when I got the job, it captured us.
