SOUTH BEND - Gary E. Sherwood, 69, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 8:31 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, in Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on October 4, 1943, to the late George M. and Ethel (Miller) Sherwood in South Bend, Indiana, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, one sister, Marilyn Lippincott, and one brother, Rolland Sherwood, also preceded him in death. Gary graduated in 1962 from South Bend Central High School. He retired in January 2012 from AM General, where he worked for 30 years as a press operator. On October 29, 1966, he married Nancy L. Spromberg at Holy Cross Church in South Bend, Indiana. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy L. Sherwood of South Bend, Indiana; four sons, Gary E. (Merryl) Sherwood, Jr. of South Bend, Indiana, Craig Sherwood of Bloomington, Indiana, John (Denise) Sherwood of Plainfield, Illinois, and Michael (Keisha) Sherwood of Peru, Indiana; two grandchildren, Nicole Marie Sherwood and John Albert Sherwood, both of Plainfield, Illinois; two sisters, Vivian Birky of South Bend, Indiana, and Joyce (John) Longenecker of Virginia; two brothers, George (Eunice) Sherwood of Mishawaka, IN, and Richard (Barbara) Sherwood of Virginia; and many nieces & nephews. Gary enjoyed vacationing up North at the lake with his family, and was an avid vegetable gardener. He loved spending time with his family, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. & 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Pastor Sam Barrington officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Advanced Heart & Lung Care Center, 1801 N. Senate Blvd., MPC1 Suite 750, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Sorry to hear of your loss. We all grew up in the same neighborhood. Tom and I were out of town and just got back or we would have been there. Have lost contact with most of the neighborhood clan. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time.

Nancy,so sorry,I was lucky to have talked with Gary last summer at the all Central reunion. Sorry I could not be at the funeral. Gary meant a lot to me and my family.
