"Shonk....get out of the butt room and go do something for the BAND!" Was a rather fun way for Mr.Minegar to remind us that there is much more to life than just ourselves. Just one of many, many lessons he taught the young men who were fortunate to have him touch our lives.
I felt a sadness upon hearing of Mr. Minegar's passing. I feel that it was a privilige to have known him. I told him this more than once. Mr. Minegar symbolized and reflected all that was good about Culver. As a staff member I was able to get to know him a little bit better. In a general sense, almost everyone that I knew and interacted with in the summer and winter Culver Band was a achiever of some sort. Mr. Minegar will continue to motivate me on earth. I do believe that he is in a better place. In large measure, Mr. Minegar had much to do with nurturing and bringing about the earthly reality of the slogan that was chanted: Band is Best. I think highly of all Bandsmen.
Mr. Minegar was the single most positive influence in my life. He taught me what it was to be a man and more importantly, a gentleman. He taught me to "give your all" in whatever you do. He truly was a blessing. I will never forget him.
Mr.Minegar was one of the most influential men in my life. As a Midshipmanin the Culver Naval Band and later as a staff member his impact has had a lifetime effect on me. I can not express my gratitude for having known this amazing man.
It was a pleasure to know Chuck in his last days. I enjoyed his stories and wonderful memories of his travels. His fondness toward his parents was evident. It was a joy to read about his endeavors over the years. He contributed in so many ways. I think many would consider him a friend. Blessings to the family extend his legacy and peace in knowing Chuck was a blessing to many. Regards
So true, Stan! Mr. Minegar taught us that if you're going to do something, you'd better give it 110%. He inspired us to do that every day at Culver. And generations of Bandsmen are still doing that today. Thank you, Mr. Minegar, for all you gave us!
miss you mr minegar.greg shonk navy band74
Mr. Minegar was a strong influence in my life while I was a member of the Culver Summer Naval School Band. The lessons he taught all of us in his care helped make us to go on to be the successful men we are today. Mr. Minegar always used to say, "Band Is Best." That how we alumni sign our notes to each other still today!
