Larry D. Walker Aug. 3, 1952 - May 5, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Larry Darrell Walker answered the final call of servitude on May 5, 2014. He was born on August 3, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana, to the union of Hattie Mae (Honeycutt) and Walter Walker. He received his diploma from the South Bend School System. In 1971, he married and was a devoted husband to Brenda Louise (Gray) Walker, who preceded him in death. From that union four children were born: twins, Larry Jr. and Diana, who also preceded him in death. He was a strong, loving and dedicated father to his two daughters, Angela (Gregory) Bradley and Tasha Lutfi, whom he leaves to cherish his loving memory, along with his grandchildren, Drake, Kai Bradley and Khaysia (Kamal) Lutfi. Larry was also a loving uncle to Marquis Echols, his favorite nephew. Larry found love again and married Terry Lee Sanders in 1999, and was a steadfast stepfather to Jermaine (Talisha) Sanders and Tahaira (Marcus) Sanders-Harrison. He also leaves six grandchildren, Jermaine II, Jordan, Terryn, Jaden and Mars, to cherish his memory. Larry became a member of the IBEW Local 153 in 1971 and entered the Joint Apprentice in Training Committee (JATC). In 1973, he obtained the Journeyman Residential wireman license. Larry became a small business owner in 1982 when he established Walker Electrical Service. In 1983, he achieved the prestigious title of Michigan Master Electrician License at the early age of 30. His services were sought out and appreciated by many in the Michiana area. Larry helped wire and light numerous churches, homes and lives. Larry was a faithful steward of the Lord, never hesitating to answer the call of servitude. He dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized at an early age in Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Larry was a member of the Greater Saint John Missionary Church. He drove one of the buses, ensuring the safe passage of other members to the church and also acted as the sound engineer. He also served as a Deacon at Mt. Carmel and Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Elkhart, Indiana. A lover of music, Larry was a talented DJ for many occasions: reunions, parties, churches, the Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart, Indiana, Black Expo, VFW, and the African American Festival. He was a true servant of the community. Dedicated to the mentoring of young people, Larry was a Youth Advisor at St. James. He also served as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed being a trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. Larry loved working in any capacity within the churches and did not hesitate to step in any area needed to help build the kingdom of God. Larry not only had a heart for God's work but was also committed to working within the community. His civic duties included being a member of NAACP, a board member of the Black Expo, a member of the Cultural and Tolson Center Golden Angels of Elkhart, Indiana. Larry was also a member of the Elkhart Rotary Club and Optimist Club. On June 27, 1999, he was awarded the St. James A.M.E. Richard Allen Award for "Making the Impossible Possible". He was also awarded the Child Abuse Prevention Services, Marv Yoder Memorial Award for his dedicated volunteer service to parents and children on April 25, 2002. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Hattie Mae Walker; eight siblings: Arlene Honeycutt, Walter Walker Jr., Sharon Walker, Sherman Walker, Linda Locke, Sandra Lee, Corliss (Pastor Rayvon) Bufkin, and Debra (James) Augerson; and a host of relatives and special friends who love him dearly. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Walter Walker; and his brother, Ulysess Honeycutt. You blessed our lives with your own. Love, Angela and Tasha Services for Larry Darrell Walker will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, in Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12 noon. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Sign his guestbook at www.clarkoneal.com. Arrangements entrusted to Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.

Seeing your picture its hard to imagine you are gone. When I walk into the sanctuary of Doulos Chapel and turn the lights on I smile remembering how hard you worked there in 2013 to get power there.

To the Walker Family~
May God continue to give you all the strength and peace to get you through this very difficult time! The first year without your love one is going to be very difficult, especially during the upcoming holidays. Just hold on to the loving memories and the good times you all shared together. It had been years since Michael and I had seen Larry, but when we did at my brother and sister-in-law's house, several years ago; it was though we had just been together the day before. There's not much one can say to help lighten the sting of your loss, but knowing our Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us should provide comfort in the belief that Larry is now resting peacefully in His presence.

i first met Larry in the 5th grade at Harrison School. Larry made a lot of friends and touched a lot of hearts. Little did we know that this young man would grow up to be the stewart he turned out to be. In class he was the "class joker" kept us laughing till tears would roll from our eyes. There wasn't a day that would'nt go by we look forward to gathering around Larry instead of the teacher. He captivated a lot of his peers. Knowing Larry was a pleasure and a priveledge. now he's gone on to be with the Father he knew best. It's gonna be a fun day in Heaven. To the Walker & Hunnicut Family, Larry is resting in a place of the most high. Back in the arms of the family he cherish. Keep your heads up & prayers agoing. If you follow in his foot steps you can't go wrong. Love you much. A Harrison School Class Mate.

To the family of Brother Larry Walker, of whom I call my brother in Christ Jesus. I spoke with Larry on Sunday night and so I like you am stunned. Therefore I will be Glorifying God."But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendth."
