Lieselotte Ella Biswas Feb. 14, 1920 - March 28, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Lieselotte Ella "Lilo" Biswas, age 94, resident of South Bend, currently of Westerville, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Lilo was born and raised in Kassel, Germany, daughter of the late Walter and Luisa Thiel. She was preceded in death by two siblings and her beloved husband, Nripendra (Nripen), a longtime professor of Physics at Notre Dame. After arriving in America, Lilo and Nripen settled in South Bend and resided there for more than 40 years until her illness required nursing care. Lilo was a former nurse and kindergarten teacher in Germany and had her own nursery school, The Cosmopolitan Playschool, in South Bend for several years. She was an active member of the Ladies of Notre Dame and the South Bend Garden Club. When her health declined, she moved closer to her son in Columbus, Ohio. She will be dearly missed by her children, Arun (Julie) Biswas of Galena, Ohiom and Indira (Timothy) Benbow of Beausale, England; and grandchildren, Sangita and Aneel Biswas and Natasha Benbow. Friends may visit to celebrate her life with the family from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend 46635. Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nripendra and Lieselotte Family Physics Endowed Fellowship through the University of Notre Dame, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
