I first met "Mr. T" almost forty years ago, right after he had just started teaching at Perley and was employed over the summer at the summer recreation program held at Jerfferson School. I and my brothers attended this program for many years, and Mr. T was always a fixture. I always admired his fairness and they way he set such a good role model for all the kids. His devotion to kids was and continues to be an inspiration to me even after all these years. Over the whole length of time that I knew him, he always remembered me as well as my brothers and would always ask about our family. When my son followed in my footsteps and attended Jefferson, Mr. T came back into my life and helped guide my son, for which I was extremely grateful as I was a single mother at the time. Some years later, our paths crossed yet again, when I remarried and we moved into a new neighborhood, only to find Mr. T right down the street!

Mr. T has truly been of service to the South Bend community as a whole, and to the South Bend Community Schools in particular. It is with great sadness that I have learned of this loss to the community and my thoughts are with his family during the grieving and beyond. Please know that he was a singular man and made a lasting impact on many, many lives. Few of us will make that kind of mark in our lives, which is why we pay tribute all the more to those that do.
