SOUTH BEND - Michael Fuzy, Jr., 89, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 1:50 p.m., Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Tanglewood Trace, Mishawaka. On October 19, 1924, in South Bend, Indiana, he was born to Michael and Elizabeth (Saglet) Fuzy Sr., who immigrated from Kapuvar, Hungary. Michael honorably served in the United States Marines during World War II where he took part in the Engibi Island Campaign. He was a member of Marine Corps League, VFW, and American Legion of South Bend and was an extensive traveler. Michael was a saxophonist and leader of the Mike Berta Combo. He was also the owner / manager of Mike Berta's Place in South Bend. Michael attended high school at South Bend Central. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Erskine Park Men's Club for many years. He was an overall sports enthusiast. Surviving are three children: Ilona "Boots" Fuzy Smerekanich of Hereford, AZ, Michael Fuzy III of Michigan City, and Rose Marie Fuzy Perry of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Bill, Michael, Kathy, John, Lori, Jimmy and Jeff, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Elizabeth, Irma, Marie Rose, and Anna; and two brothers, Geza and Michael. Interment will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2013 at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Ave., South Bend. A memorial service will follow from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Erskine Park Golf Course Clubhouse, 4200 Miami St., South Bend. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W.
