It’s amazing how much a police officer touches a civilian’s life. I’ve always thought the reason I was so distraught over the death of a local officer is because I personally knew the police officer. Well, I clearly see that the pain I feel for the loss of Cpl. Nick Polizzotto and his family is just as severe as it was for the other fallen officers that I knew.

I never had the opportunity to meet Cpl. Polizzotto, however I feel just as distraught as I did when other local officers that I knew died in the line of duty.

The reason being-- it’s not just the person I respect, it’s the profession. I wish everyone thought this way… Cpl. Nick Polizzotto would still be with us, instead of looking down over us.

I hope at this painful time the Polizzotto’s find a little comfort knowing how much their son’s sacrifice means to most of us community members- even the ones that were never able to meet Nick.

My thought and prayers are with you.

I want to send my prayers and sympathy to the family of such a wonderful person. I attended LaSalle High School with Todd and considered him a friend. I had his mom for an English teacher. He was always the quiet kid with a smile on his face. The one thing I remember most about Todd is he was always kind and friendly to everyone and never took sides. I am honored for having known such a kind and gentle soul. My prayers are with you and may he look down from above and smile on us and continue to keep us all safe.

I was one of Mrs. Polizzotto's students back in 1986. I'm a few years older than Nick. This touches me not only because I know the family, but because I am a 15-year veteran of law enforcement, and am also the daughter of a retired South Bend police officer. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
