I first time to meet Van was when he moved back to Fort Worth. I worked for him. He was such an amasing man. He was such an amasing person. He was very genorise and so kind. My life was blessed to have known him. There are not enough words to describe him. R.I.P Van may your music and kidness live on.

When my husband and I moved to Texas in 1984, I knew no one, but I wrote to Mr. Cliburn, asking him if I could volunteer at the piano competition. A few weeks later, I received a letter from the director of the foundation telling me that Van had forwarded my letter and that, yes, I could work for the competition. What a gracious and warm man he was, always in navy blue and always with a kind greeting for everyone.

Van spread Light with his talent and Texas-sized generosity and wit. He is sorely missed. Van also taught other musicians to spread their Light.
Thank you from the bottom of this East Texas girl's heart, Van. You and your Mother meant so much to my family. No, we didn't know you personally. Inspiration travels far--and yours surely did. Love, Pamela

I was fortunate to have seen Van Cliburn perform at the New Years Eve performance in the convention center in Fort Worth. He played Tchaikovsky's Concerto #1 and Rachmaninoff's Concerto #2. I have heard winners of the Cliburn competition play Tcahikovsky, but NO ONE could play it like Van. He was the greatest concert pianist of our time. I thank you Van for the wonderful music you gave me and the world. Shalom! Rest in Peace.
