Arthur Augustus Schlock
NEWBERRY, SC-- Arthur Augustus Schlock, 86, died Friday, May 17th, 2013, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on October 25, 1926, in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Augustus Taylor and Flora Callahan Schlock. Mr. Schlock was a WWII Army veteran. He was instrumental in the construction of the Newberry County Vocational School where he served the first director and retired in 1988. He gave 34 years of service to Vocational Education in South Carolina.
He received the Honorary American Farmer Degree in 1968. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newberry where he faithfully served in many capacities. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Newberry and an active member of Gideon International.
He is survived by his wife, Texas Coleman Schlock; a son, Arthur Kenneth Schlock and his wife, Carolyn of Woodruff; a daughter, Dianne Schlock Westmoreland and her husband, Tom of Spartanburg; a sister, Carolyn Schlock Walters and husband, Kendal of Anderson; 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Newberry. Entombment will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Newberry, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
