Hilda Putnam Stapleton
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Hilda P. Stapleton, 92, of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born on January 4, 1922, in Laurens, SC to the late Eugene Harrison and Amy Jamison Putnam. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Jackson Stapleton, three brothers and one sister. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
As a graduate of Columbia College, she retired from teaching after 30 years with Spartanburg School District 5. She was an avid reader and loved being close to her family.
Hilda is survived by her sons, Carl Eugene Stapleton, of Portsmouth, VA and James Kenneth (Cathy) Stapleton, of Roebuck, SC; daughters, Linda C. Stapleton of Orange Park, FL and Rebecca S. Prince of Spartanburg, SC. She was the very proud grandmother to four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:30 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 215, Buffalo, SC 29321, conducted by the Rev. Chris Barrett.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301 or to the American Heart Association, 3535 Pelham Road, Suite 101, Greenville, SC 29615.
