Laura Hicks
GAFFNEY, SC-- Anna Laura Huskey Hicks, age 75, of 209 Grassy Pond Road, passed on to heaven November 12, 2012, at her home while surrounded by family and friends.
Mrs. Hicks, a retired elementary school teacher, devoted 39 years of her life educating and influencing children. She was an active, life-long member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Born November 12, 1937, to the late Jennings Bryan and Helen Austell Huskey, she was the widow of the late Charles Avery Hicks. Left to honor her and remember her sweet nature are a son, Charles Brian (Chuck) Hicks and wife, Shawn, of Winston-Salem, NC; a daughter, Laura Beth Phillips and husband, John, of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Elias Bowman Hicks, Stanley Richard Yeargin, Emily Claire Phillips, Luke Jennings Phillips, and William Seth Phillips. Also surviving are brothers, Bill Huskey and wife, Thelma, and Tom Huskey and wife, Janet, both from Greenville, SC; a sister, Kathryn Grayson and husband, Roger, of Shelby, NC; and a sister-in-law, Lula Ann Scruggs and husband, Bobby, of Gaffney. She is predeceased by two sisters, Mary Mussman and husband, Frederick, and June Lanier and husband, Shuford.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 1:00 until 2:45 PM at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM conducted by the Reverends Terry Lanford and Martin Hogg. Interment will be in the Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Mission Trip Fund, Grassy Pond Baptist Church, 254 Grassy Pond Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.
